Please would someone be able to advise me on how to fit a radio into an Avondale avocet 2007
I have just bought this and the was all the wires and speakers ready to go with the connectors so I bought a new stereo
Now this is the tricky bit the connectors are different but my new stereo has the correct one that I need to connect the wires to
I have done the speakers but I have no idea what so ever what the other 3 wires are to connect to the stereo
One wire is white with orange stripe the 2nd is yellow with white stripe and the third is Brown with yellow I think
Try doing a search on Google for 'Car Stereo Wiring Diagrams' as there is loads of information and diagrams relating to different makes and types of car stereo systems.
I can't help you there unfortunately because although I have my caravan handbook with electrical diagrams, the caravan didn't actually come fitted with a radio/CD player as standard in 1999 so I had one fitted by the caravan dealer when I purchased it.
All I can say is that the radio should be linked to either an auxiliary or lighting switch fitted with an in line radio fuse.
Hi, you will need a volt meter to check caravan wiring. your radio will be intended to be used in a car so will need a permanent live feed as it needs this to feed clock and preset channel memory. then there is a live feed controlled by aux power switch (ign switch in a car) then the caravan may have an earth/negative lead as in a car this could be gained from cars metal body which a caravan does not have. so its a case of finding what your radio needs and finding what the leads you have in the caravan are providing. also radio will have an extra lead to feed an electric ariel.
Not trying to teach you to suck eggs but whoever wired my radio into my caravan has done so using a constant live which means if I dont take the face off the radio it satys on stand by and drains the battery, if you can find a 12v plug near where you want the radio and tap into there atleast then it is switchable

I suspect they've used a permanent live for both the memory feed and main supply to the radio, otherwise the radio would shut off properly when the 12v circuit is off in the caravan (lazy installer).
As Shaggy alludes to, if wired correctly by using a permanent supply for memory circuit and proper switched supply for the radio itself, you shouldn't experience battery drain. I've fitted several units this way and not had any issue at all as the memory back-up draw is insignificant.
