just got my first caravan and am going to cornwall in 2 weeks time, what i want to know is can i use an ordinary shop bought microwave on the 10 amp hook up or does it have to be a super expensive low voltage job.
Our van has a normal 800w microwave, however the wattage used when cooking is much higher, over 2kw, so that is something you'll need to check. We have 10amps on our seasonal site so have to make sure everything else is switched off before cooking. If the water pump or heater switches on then off go the elecs, luckily an easy fix for us.
I don't think there is such a thing as a low-voltage camping microwave. Ours came with an 800w oven, which is pretty power hungry so needs watching on 10 amp EHU. Usually OK though.

Hairywo sorry to contradict you but there is a 550w caravan microwave on the market. we had bought one about 3 seasons ago but alas it went rusty inside where the rollers for the plate turns and then gradually spread so we chucked it last year but still in working condition. but I cannot remember the name other than new---something.
you can buy low wattage microwaves anywhere,600 to 700 watt is the norm. But all 240 volt not 12 volt.If youget less than 600 watt you may aswell use the hob or oven.Like others have said, just make sure nothing major like blow air heating or water comes on,you will be fine.
