Older couple next to us , in France, who have been caravanning for years. They have a nearly new Lunar van and he does not carry a fresh or waste water container with him. Also he has a "cooking tent" and an Aldi electric oven and an electric griddle.
He said they don't need water because they use Campsite facilities and they never cook in the caravan, because he doesn't like "the mess"
I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't have a gas bottle. He said " you pay for the electric so you might as well use it" ( from Yorkshire)(so am I...near enough!)

They probably don't use their own caravan toilet either to save on the cost of fluids but it's not unusual regarding people who are watching their own pennies.
I once knew a couple who also had a brand new caravan who's views were identical regarding using electric but what was worse was that they used to go to other peoples awnings in the evening and ask the owners if they could use their toilet as theirs was too far away. Of course the toilet filled twice as quick so it didn't last and that's what you call really taking the p**s.

Loads cook outside caravan in hot weather in France. I can't be bothered so I cook inside but careful my sweat don't drip in me dinner. I don't bother with waste water container either. Plenty cook electric and often trip the supply. I always site nr the toilets, its easier than using porta potty. Always plenty of campers in the morning emtying their p*ss buckets. When in France etc.

A caravan near me never turns off their electric heaters they open all the windows and zip off the side of the awning before they will turn the heaters off.
They say "i have paid for the electric so im going to use it" UK site.

We always find it strange the amount of people who walk up and down from their caravans to the pot washing area with a bowl of dishes. If we wanted to use the pot wash area we would have stayed in a tent. The facilities in caravans are designed for use, not as decoration. We use everything in our van that's the purpose it was designed for and why we bought it.

I agree, it's most peculiar! we also use all our own caravan facilities.

You'll find that most people use the camp site facilities as part of being sociable. You can have good chats with people, that you wouldn't have met, while doing the dishes and find interesting places to visit through those discussions.

In the opposite sense I find it strange the number of people that never leave their vans. But carry on as I don't won't the shower block too busy.

All caravans are different, big, small, new, old so really one can hardly criticise other folks methods of doing things. If you are pitched up for a couple of months or more as some are in France then caravan as mainly bedroom and separate cook tent or cooker and domestic fridge in awning might be way to go or if like me you caravan with a serious dose of the cba's then pitch near bogs saves trouble of emptying toilet. Family sized washup is far better done at the site sinks and if you can't even be arsed to get dressed in the morning then naturist is way to go, works for me.

There is nothing wrong in using the toilet for number twos, the chemicals break it all down over a period of time. We empty our toilet cassette each morning and have never had any issues with it. When we have the grandchildren with us they also want to use it, can't tell a 2 year old what they can and can't do on the toilet, the older children don't mind going to the CDP to empty it as required.

I like the irony that you question why people walk up and down to the pot wash area, yet you empty your toilet each morning.

If you are using it properly it doesn't need emptying until it is full.

Yes of course number twos, whyever not? as said, you use the correct toilet fluid and empty regularly, no problem. We normally use CLs/CSs without facilities.

Depending on the time spent in the van, the amount of fluids drank and the amount of people staying in the van, usually 2 adults and 3 children, having a routine of topping up water, emptying grey waste and then emptying the toilet cassette each morning is more practical than leaving it until the light comes on, which, from experience is usually late at night or early morning.

We couldn't get hot water in our last caravan so we used the pot wash for dishes because its much easier than boiling the kettle several times to fill the sink up. We also use it when we go away with friends as there isn't enough room in the caravan to wash everything up in one go.

We also use the shower facilities on site as our shower is tiny and not practical for trying to wash the kids.

each to their own, everyone has their own way of doing things
