is it normal to expect to pay way over £400 for storage and expect your caravan to be broken into?
Or for this price should or shouldn't there be security?
------------- Up there for thinking, down there for dancing. 😎
Going from the replies on a thread I started recently about theft from our unit whilst in storage I've realised it makes no difference if you pay £250 or £400 with all the security going to the thieves.
Did pay 240 a year for farm field storage. Was pretty secure with hedge and ditch and farmer living right by. But it could be left open by day so anyone could get in.
Also had long grass and weeds so had trouble with mice. Watch out for that. They don't seem to be a problem if on tarmac etc.
We pay £340 for Cassoa gold and get 24/7 manned security, CCTV and also 24/7 access. We have a tag in the van linked to our swipe card so that only our card would open the gate. We've had no problems at all. I think it would be difficult to steal from a van but thieves will find a way.
I was told that by a reformed thief, if they want it then they will have it.
He was into motorbikes and found ingenious ways around security.
I presume your tag opens the gates as well as everyone elses tag? They town their old rusty wreck in for a few days storage and then leave with a nice shiny one.
Dads got his sited and they have a storage compound also, They towed one in and a different one out.
Some of the clamps leave a lot to be desired also, I managed to get mine off with a pair of long nosed pliers when i forgot the key.
I fitted it much tighter after that, but that has the downside of putting dents in the tyres sidewall and i wouldnt trust it on the road after that.
If you want good security you have to pay for it, even then if they want to steal it from you they will find a way.
I have even heard stories where thy have stolen the security cameras.
It is not just thieves looking to steal your caravan you have to worry about, but so called fellow caravanners who will help themselves to things off your caravan. Makes no difference if there is high tech security or none at all.
Not stolen from a secure site, but this video heartbreakingly shows just how determined (and efficiently organised) thieves can be when the b*st*rds have decided they are taking a van, regardless.
Hi Grampian, although every access card allows entry, only the correct pairing of both card and tag allow the gate to open. Out of hours when unmanned the gates are the solid 7ft high roller variety so a van would struggle to smash through them with significant damage. During working hours the site is manned and monitored.
