Hi, looking to buy our first van, only looking at cheep old ones at the mo, we will have 2 dogs with us most of the time so looking at 4 to 5 births , seen a few but bathrooms small, could one remove the rear seating/bed area and turn it into a bathroom? I used to be a builder so have good diy skills

Interior furniture provides rigidity to whole structure so with that in mind yes you could modify interior but be aware you should not add too much extra weight at rear end so you would need to use lightweight material similar to original structure.

If you do you will end up with a 2 berth. You can buy 2 berths with rear wash rooms quite cheaply and may find one in better condition as only used by a couple rather than a family with unruly kids.

Thanks for replies, was looking at bigger Purely because of the dogs , there not ones for keeping out of the way, so a bit of extra space wouldn't go a miss, but i don't know much about vans so a 2 birth with rear wash room may have similar space, Im open to all advise

A 2 berth with an end washroom maybe much larger than a 5 berth van.

The number of berths does not dictate the size of the van or the amount of space.

I had a 5 berth Sprite musketeer that was 17ft from tip to tip and weighed 850kg.
I nearly bought a 23ft twin axle Buccaneer that was over 23ft in length and weighed close to 1500kg yet was only a 2 berth.

As others have said, it is possibly to modify the internal layout of a caravan. But you would have to be careful what materials you use as this can drastically effect the weight of the van, plus it could also effect the weight distribution, possibly causing instability when towing.
