Whenever we have guests staying they always sleep in the inner tent in the awning. I'm not sure how sleeping in the awning makes any difference to creating a fire break, the awning dimensions don't become any larger when people are sleeping in it.
What is so different between sleeping in an awning and sleeping in a tent? Basically an awning is a tent that is attached on one side to a caravan. Can't see the problem.

that's why I only caravan in France - every site I've been on there is nicely laid back and the emphasis is on enjoying your holiday without all the "elf and safety" this Country has become infected with.
Just spotted this mentioned on the Haven site, not used them for a few years and one site just happens to be 2 minutes from where we need to be in a few weeks so thought take the van and make a week of it.
Not listed as a site that allows sleeping in the awning though.
Not a problem but never noticed that rule before.
Silly website wont let me search for prices though. I can get prices for a couple of days this week and a couple in November and thats all?
