We upgraded about 7 weeks ago to a Burstner 455TS. Was looking into insuring it but it was stolen sunday this week from outside our house in the cardiff area. Hitchlock and wheel locks didn't prevent them from taking it. We are gutted! Would like to replace it maybe next year but I have reservations about another being stolen. Is there any other way of tracking/securing a caravan that I am not aware of?
Sorry to hear your news. The honest answer is if they really want it not much will stop them.
We keep ours at a secure storage site with Hitchcock, two wheel clamps and touch wood it's been fine for 4 years. Personally I think driveway is less secure than a good gold rated cassoa storage site.
The caravan you choose will have some bearing too, some males are more attractive than others.
I don't think anything would stop someone taking a caravan if they really wanted it. We keep ours in a gold rated CASSOA storage site, I think more about the possibility of theft when it's left through-out the day on some smaller, more remote sites we visit. The anti theft devices are only a deterrent, it may put someone off or just slow them down from taking your van, insurance should, if in place, cover some or all of the loss depending on the policy purchased. On other posts, many people have said you wouldn't want a van back after it had been stolen, a tracker may locate it and a recovery may be possible, would you want it back not knowing who's been in it or where it has been? Really sorry to hear of yours and yet another van theft, don't let it put you off, good luck in the future.

Some people have their post code in big letters on top of their van so the van can be seen from the air by a police helicopter .
One prob Jeff. so do the burglars see it,they then know you are away, then again going home.

First off, thank you for your comments and will take on board any advice given.
We are new to caravanning and obviously haven't done enough homework. We bought the caravan and got it home only to find ourselves tied up with a major family crisis. Did look into insurance but never got round to it as crisis was still ongoing and we thought the caravan would be ok parked outside the window! Well we certainly learnt a lesson!
I was just wondering if there was another way of securing that I didn't know about as we are thinking of buying another next year and I don't want the same thing happening! I'm paranoid now! It won't put us off though as we love it. As for having the van back if we are lucky enough, no, I would not use it again. I would definately sell or part exchange for another similar model. I am told travelling people favour certain caravans, is this true?
Do you have any secure storage sites near to where you live? Another issue with keeping a caravan on the drive is that people know you are away and the house is possibly empty when the caravan is not at home. There are numerous devices on the market for securing a caravan, unfortunately there are possible numerous people out there who will not be deterred by anything you fit.
