This is our first year as caravan owners and so am looking for a bit of advice. We've just got back from 2 nights away in the van and it's unlikely we'll use it now until next easter.

So what do we need to do to ensure that it is ok over winter. We've left the taps open and the bathroom door is open to allow circulation, is there anything else we should be doing?

Thanks :)

Make sure your water system is drained battery removed or able to charge at periods some folk remove wheels I don't handbrake off if possible. Check at regular intervals dehumidifying crystals are a help

Is your caravan at home? If so you can plug into mains and heat and vent anytime you like,if not, open cupboards, remove any perishables, remove upholstery if possible or stand up to let air flow, drain down, leave drain taps open, toilet blade open, good wash and really good wax Inc roof, some folk leave a couple of windows on the latch, but I don't know if that's a good thing or not,

Don't bother with any dehumidifying devices or crystals as they are completely pointless. You need good ventilation.

Any crystals will be trying to remove moisture from the air that is constantly being replaced by fresh air coming into the van through the floor vents etc.

Difficult I know to do the roof, I use the spray on wax like showroom shine, or the stuff in the range, go from each side spray on, wipe off with one of the cheap micro fibre floor mops, then go over with another to buff up a little. You know what kind of mop I mean, they are about 18" x 5" square with telescopic handle, usually about £3 from home bargains or similar shops.
