Thanks everybody - some great advice / suggestions / tips / links, very much appreciated.

*scootles off in search off in search of collapsible boxes*

This questions doesn't feel quite so daft - the outdoor panel which drops down to reveal the leisure battery and the electricity inlet - when the power cable is connected the panel will need to stay open exposing the leisure battery to the elements - rain / snow etc. Is that right? Am I being dim?

No not dim, you should find that with the mains cable attached the panel/door to the battery compartment will close enough against the cable (not squashing it if you see what i mean!) and you can lock it again. It will need fiddling about with to find the best position for cable to lay. You don't want water, dirt or curious kids getting in or your battery stolen.

Hi, there is usually a channel left for your cable to run through, allowing you to lock the door whilst connected.
