Hi
We have just taken our 2011 Bailey Unicorn Barcelona for its service, only to be told the floor was damp. It seems the water runs down inside the Alu-Tec walls and settles on the floor. We bought the Bailey because of the Alu-Tec method of construction thinking it was vertically Damp proof this is very disappointing. Has anyone else had this trouble with their Bailey Alu-Tec caravans?
Thanks for your reply,
Unfortunately we are the 2nd owners, the first owners didn't keep up with the servicing on time. So Bailey refused to transfer warranty.
Our 2011 Bailey Orion has had a continual damp problem at the rear end. Its just had its 5th repair and the alledged problem was the rear most locker door. The dealer informed me that Bailey are having mega problems with these doors as they are fitted so that the drain holes are to the side. Also the doors have a double click lock system and us caravaners are at fault for not shutting the door correctly!!! Anyway the repair was done the end of October and so far everything is looking good, even after all this terrible weather.

they are very strict on this, we had to prove ours had been before they would transfer. Have you had the quote through yet? how bad is it?
I'm sure other threads relating to this issue are on this site if you have a hunt about. I have heard numerous reports of wet floors caused by water running down walls etc with this type of construction.
Also regarding the warranty you may still have a legal right to claim fromthem if you can prove this is a design or production issue.
I think Bailey are shocking the way they handle these issues.

I would investigate source of leak, It could be as simple as missing or failed sealant on a seam somewhere & diy fixable with PU sealant.
But why cant the dealers do this and do it successfully. it seems the OP has had ongoing issues.
i have had my van damp repaired twice now by the dealer who sold it. its dry now but i am looking to trade it in for a bigger van, the dealers repairs however are not invisible so i am waiting for trouble when trading it in. why are caravan workshops so useless?
Thanks for all your replies, its very disappointing so many people seem to be having the same problems. We haven't had a price yet for the repairs because they are very busy. we will just have to keep are fingers
crossed.
When we bought our 2015 unicorn we were warned that it was a common problem on the 2011 series. On the 2013 & 2015 series the alu-tech walls come lower to eliminate the issue.

and five nights in the one man tent!
Ours was caused by the shower tray incorrectly fitted it was not siliconed all the way around leaving a gap of 2 inches each way in the corner of the tray. Ours is a 2014 unicorn. I have done the work as So I know it's done properly.
Get a price from a repairer rather than a dealer sometimes anyway the dealers farm this work out and add their cut I did this with my window rubbers and it was nearly half the cost of a dealer quote..

were you aware of the lack of service history when you bought the van ?
I searched issues before I bought my pegasus bologna. There were a few issues with the fixings of the LED external handles where rain could track through. It would pass next to the plastic locker liners and cause a damp floor. This was a more thorough fit to fix on later models.
Makes for interesting reading, have had damp at 75% in the front lockers of a 2011 Bologna II, took bailey 6 months to agree, get the parts and do the repair, fortunately under warranty £4.5k in total, that was in Nov 2015, obviously i am sceptical about what i will find when we take it out in 2 weeks after such a dry winter......, seems lots of front locker problems due to the "LED" lights in the front handles, dealer said he was out sourcing warranty repair work as there were so many vans needing fixing. Love the van but when the warranty finishes so does my affinity to this van.
