Hi all, we have a single axel elddis firestorm 2007 model and we really need a motor mover fitting, we can't afford a brand new 1 so are looking at second hand, what motor mover would fit our van and are they easy to install?
I can't comment on how easy to install they are but we got 8 years of sterling service from our PurpleLine mover. These are still very competitively priced and you could probably pick up a second hand one for a couple of hundred quid.
We had ours from new and it came with a 'lifetime' guarantee - can't remember if it was transferrable.
Good luck - once you have a mover you'll never look back!
We have the Purpleline mover on our van, I fitted it myself to our first van and it has since been re-fitted onto our next 2 vans. The movers are easy to fit if a competent person, the only issue is the weight of the motors when fitting them onto the van chassis.
Have now fitted four myself and simple enough if you get the instructions with a S/H one.If not you may find fitting instructions on line. The first one i fitted was Purpleline but others since Powrtouch which in my opinion as a retired mechanical/electrical engine are better. Also parts if required are accessible from Powrtouch whereas i have read of people having problems with parts supply for Purpleline.
If you have a look online, there are several videos showing how to fit one to see if you would be able to do it. Some caravan workshops will fit a user supplied one for a fee. Best of luck.
Any motor mover will fit your caravan since they bolt onto the chassis (to prevent weakness by drilling) and there are only two main chassis manufacturers.
I have a Powrtouch because that's what my local chappie happens to fit. Everyone who has any mover my any manufacturer seems to be happy with it, so I wouldn't worry about the brand.
------------- Camping Gear expands so as to fill the space available for its transportation.
The bar that goes through so both movers are dropped onto the wheel at the same time are worthwhile if you can get one. Otherwise you have to go to both sides to put it on and then again to take it off.
Go for it tetchy100, a mover is the best accessory that you can add to a caravan in my opinion. It isn't as daunting as it may first look plus there are lots of info on youtube etc regarding installation & testing.
If you don't feel up to it then a local caravan service guy will fit it for you in no time. I fitted my Purpleline one myself in a couple of hours.

That used to be the case navver but not any longer.
The Pwrtouch Evolution fitted to our van doesn't even require me to touch anything other than the Remote Control unit for it in order to get it to engage - move the van and dis-engage.
There is no metal bar connecting the motors together under the van so there is more ground clearance and less likelihood of fouling on sleeping policemen (traffic calming humpy things).
It is a fantastic mover and was thrown in with the 'van else we wouldn't have it given the price tag.

Most movers do still have the connecting bar. You have auto actuation on yours which is very expensive and prone to failing hence not many people buy them.
Thanks for the advice people, so no mover is van specific? All I need is to pick the mover I want, follow the instructions and I can fit it myself easy enough? Sounds good to me 😄

Hardly expensive as it was thrown in with the 'van.
I take your point though it would have been quite expensive to buy if it hadn't been bundled in with the caravan.
The manufacturer doesn't seem to share your view on reliability as they have given a 5 year guarantee undertaking to have an engineer visit you wherever you are when you have the problem.
We are in the process of replacing our powertouch mover we have had it on for just over 8 years without a glitch but one of the motors is now playing up so we have just ordered a new one (the replacement part was £150) So we opted for a new one from Catterick Caravans £599-00 free delivery. They didn't have any in stock so it arrived today direct from powertouch. Hubby can fit it himself and it will still have the 5 year guarantee but they won't send out a fitter (just the replacement part) If they fit it then a fitter will come out if you have any problems. We have an approved fitter who lives in our village who will fit for £95. Which we think we will go with for the peace of mind of them coming out if there is any faults. Hope this helps
