Can anyone help or advise looking to buy an abbey spectrum 520.....however the vin number in the window and on chassis doesnt correspond?? The vins state its an elddis odysey 2002...which it definately is not. The current owners who are selling it are completely unaware of this and have called the police and cris to try and sort this out. Police have said no crime is related to the vin and cris have asked for photos of the a frame vin and the windows and a pic of the caravan itself?? Has anyone heard of this before??? Very odd

The simple answer is that if you haven't bought it then it's not your problem so why bother with it? Find another caravan with good paperwork that checks out ok with Cris.

Most obvious answer might be that windows have come from another caravan, why? one can only speculate but best avoided if you have not paid any money yet. If you have placed a deposit then you are entitled to it back.

I think all the windows should have the VIN number on them. Are they all the same or just one is wrong. If just one, it's likely a window from a scrapper was fitted to replace a broken one.

However, if there is a problem with you buying it you will also have a problem selling it later.

First of all, congratulations on your excellent detection work. What surprises me is that the seller isn't actually aware of it or maybe they ARE and not being totally honest and hoping to sell a red herring to anyone who is interested to buy. Personally I would point this out to the seller and then give them constructive grounds as to why you are declining to make the purchase and look elsewhere.

I would guess the seller had no knowledge of Cris when they bought it. Plenty of caravans do not get updated with Cris when they change hands privately often because buyer/seller know nothing of Cris.

The op does not make it clear if all window nos. are same & correspond to the Elddis with chassis no. as Abbey. If that is case then as pointed out most likely replacement for broken windows from scrappy.

If caravan is not down on database as stolen then it's probably ok but if its a later model with hefty price tag & op has not paid any money it's not their problem & best bet would be to find another caravan that checks out ok.
