Any one tried or seen the Eurom ac2400 looks like it could be useful in the hot summer in the south France. Cool my camper is also a site who look like they sell them but does not seem to have in stock and neither does Amazon. Maybe wrong time of year I just not up for paying for one and waiting.
Looks like they are around £400 via Holland but £500 here too.
But a cheaper alternative to actual roof mounted units that will only be used 3 to 4 weeks of the year and then no need to weight down the van year round?...
Waste of money, really. Unit hangs outside at waist level & is noisy, so you will get annoyed fellow campers yanking out your ehu cable at night. Thats what happened in Spain 'tother year when a Belgian set one up in his motorhome. He gave up after the 2nd night.
Poor campsite etiquette to use one. Imagine being in a tent next to one of these things humming away in your ear? I can never figure out why folk go right south & then want to use aircon. If it's too hot for you, go to Brittany or up in the mountains.
Tbf though unless you go right down to southern Spain in summer it's rarely too hot at night to sleep. 18deg is ok, it's only when it's about 25deg at 2am it gets a bit much but you don't really get that in southern France.
Last July down in Frejus, it was well hot, more so than the previous year.
We do like it hot, and as we are in a Cotton Tent, the nights were fine, but I have to admit for the first time ever I splashed out 15€ on an electric fan, which got well used as the mid day Sun, started to fry us.
Of course, a dip in the pool, I find is the best way of coping, when it gets hot, hot, hot.
As you say Francais, nights were fine until the caravanner on the next pitch started running one of these things right in your earhole. Pull his ehu lead, I would.
The point being made is serious though. When considering any equipment for one's pitch, one should ask one's self "will this impinge on my neighbours who have right to enjoy a quiet undisturbed night?".
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Just looked them up seem to be expensive for a fan with water but if the work in Oz then they must be good.
Open sauce, we were in south France last year and it was 40 deg and we went this far to have a better chance of sun which we got! We wentround numerous supermarkets and not a fan to be seen on sale so thought I would be prepared!
As for the noise point taken maybe a couple of fans will circulate the air a little 😎
The Transcool is an evaporative cooler which relies on cool water to maintain efficiency & if one's tent is hot enough to require cooling this just ain't going to supply cold air for long because the small amount of water it holds will warm up with the heat. To be as cold as aircon it needs a supply of ice cold water. It is also at least as noisy as a peltier coolbox.
Evaporative coolers are often used in homes as a cheaper form of aircon in hot countries but to work they require a continuous supply of cool water which a built into a house system will have but you can't really replicate that into a small portable unit. Also evaporative coolers increase humidity which will already be high if heat is oppressive, reducing effectiveness further. They are better suited for use in hot, dry conditions not hot & humid.
Before wasting £349 on something that will keep you awake rather than keep you cool in night temps in the 20s degC watch this video, which shows the relationship to air temp pumped from unit in relationship water temps. Note the volume of ice cold water required to make it as cold as a proper a/c.
How do you know what will or will not keep someone awake
------------- XVI yes?

they had a unit running on the stand and the air it was blowing out was ice cold.i am thinking about getting 1 to keep dogs cool in there cage in back of vehicle at dog shows.
You need to think about whether the site you are on can handle the amps. We were some sites in Europe that only had 3 or 6 amps. People had air cons on their vans but couldn't use them.
I was thinking one would be good for keeping the van cool during the day, therefore making it cooler at night as there wouldn't be so much built up thermal energy. Wouldn't consider leaving it on at night, though it might be more relaxing than the sound of snoring! (Never seems to wake me though, ROTFWL).
Closest I could find to a cheap portable unit was an electriq ac9000e for around £170, now gone up to £200.

Yes, but what was the ambient temperature & how recently had they filled it with cold water? It might be blowing cold air at low humidity & 18deg ambient but what about high humidity created by sleeping in a small space & 25deg ambient, how good would it be then?
For your application, much the same, dogs breathing, in a warm confined space. For any sort of a/c to work(& this is not proper refrigerated a/c)you need a closed space & with dogs you need window open, yes? So device would be ineffective.
If you run a/c in caravan daytime, you will need windows & vents shut. Turn it off at night & it will soon heat up & you will have to open windows. If you want a/c at night you will have to run it with windows shut.
If you want a freestanding a/c unit best bet would be household type as sold in B&Q but campsite ehu would have to supply enough amps.
The 'cool my camper' is a proper split a/c system with refrigerant circulating. But if I remember correctly it's capacity is only 900w. By comparison the smallest house system is 2.5kw. So it will be next to useless in a vehicle with the sun beating down on it. They are only intended for night time use.
Don't get me wrong I love a/c it's in my house and makes a great heater in reverse mode but I wouldn't bother in a caravan, if the heat bothers you just tow it somewhere cooler.
PS. KWs quoted are cooling/heating capacity, not electrical (electrical is roughly 1/3 of that.)
