We're thinking of getting a family van, currently thinking of an Avondale Dart 5 berth as the layout looks good, but what to do about storage and how much does it cost? Should we consider inside/outside, farms, hangars etc. What do you all do? We have a drive but there's a drop off on one side and as a newbie, reversing it in could be costly. The drive also has a gradient of about 20 degrees.
I would look first at storage options in your area. Try a google search. CASSOA bronze, silver or gold are good, I use a gold site but these may not impress your insurer any more than a storage which has a decent secure gate with fence, CCTV or someone resident on site.
My annual fee is around £400. Its not far from home and we have a tag for the electronic gate and a key for the internal gate so we can pretty much come and go as we please which may be a consideration to you, how easy is it to pick up and drop off.
I had a van stolen several years back from the farm I was using, that's the trouble with farms they seem to be a magnet for any one looking to steal.

As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Wow, storage seems a good business model, say 200 vans at £500 a pop per year, that's £100,000 turnover, I wonder if they manage to scrape a living from that, after having paid the over heads of course.

it is in a local factory that had an empty shed.68 caravans and some very pricey cars and motorhomes.
We found storage very difficult to find in Bucks. Eventually found a what I can only say is like a small holding, retired couple who are mostly home most of the time. Has security, gate, CCTV, bollards etc but isn't cheap but beggars can't be choosers in our area.
Hey Diesel Steve, if your Gold site is working 27/7 no wonder it's £525 :-)
Seriously though, much appreciated as it gives me an idea as to what we could end up paying. I'm just pricing up all the xtras at the moment to see what our first year of caravanning would cost, so storage, insurance, locks etc
As I said there are storage sites out there that have the same standards as those described to be COSSOA. My mate uses one which is not COSSOA registered but offers something akin to silver, the owner lives on site and checks who is coming in and out but he has to pre arrange pickup and drop off.
And just to complicate things, not all the COSSOA sites seem to be on their webb site, possibly needs updating, and not all insurance companies give a discount just because you use CASSOA.

Nightmare search for Cassoa storage in Surrey! The only one less than an hour away was a bronze, only open Monday to Friday 9-5 and Sat 8-1 and wanting nearly £750 a year for the privilege! Ended up with dual insurance for home and the storage facility for the first year.have just renewed for home driveway storage only and our premium has dropped! Has to have the usual locks and be behind a locked gate though. We met a family at the weekend who had just had to replace their van after theirs was stollen from a secure compound (not cassoa), so will continue as we are for the moment!

Well that's a very high price on top of service and insurance etc. My sister stores hers on a c&cc site . She does have to pay them to tow in and out though .
Some smaller site may charge less for storage . But I'm not sure.
We have just come back from the Netherlands. ( I know it's too far ) but my point being they are a small country there is a lot of caravan storage all under cover. Very impressive .
After 12 years we have just moved site from Sandyfields, a gold CASSOA site just between Southampton and Winchester as the owner has sold the land for development. I feel for people that don't know as in a years' time 500+ are going to be looking for an alternative storage facility in the area
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
