Correct. If the van has hookup connected then the battery is showing full charge courtesy of the onboard charger. Under these conditions the solar panel will not supply any further charge to the battery. By disconnecting the EHU, the 12v system will be supplied via the battery alone thus allowing the solar panel to replenish the battery as needed.
