The new (New to me) Caravan is coming tomorrow and I'm starting to think about security
The idea I have is to place a second small 12 volt battery in a cavity and wire up a Hawk car alarm I have knocking about. It has shock and ultrasonic sensors and a siren that could go in the spare wheel compartment
I didn't want to wire it up to the leisure battery as I plan to fit a solar trickle charger to it
Has anyone done the same? I'm fairly sure it will work fine, I didn't fancy one of the cheaper contact/pir alarm units
Regards
Mark
------------- There was a horse upon the hill, it isn't there now, it must have gone
Whats the current draw on the alarm? Thats the issue even a very small amount soon adds up when the van is unused and not being charged.
If your adding a solar charger then the leisure battery would be way better than some smaller battery unit.
It will last a lot longer between charges.
I would size it like this...
If the alarm draws 1watt per hour in standby then it will use 24watts a day. I would have at least a 12 watt panel to recharge it. That way it should keep the battery topped up even in quite cloudy weather.
