After my previous posting about caravans and toddlers and after viewing some today we are almost there with our decision. I was amazed by the luxury!
Now the search begins and we are looking for a light weight caravan that can comfortably sleep 5- (not two double beds) that weighs under 1412kg mtplm.
Any recommendations as my head is spinning!
Thanks again.

Thanks, we looked at a new Adria Altea severn today and really liked it. We wouldn't necessarily go for new but were just after ideas. The mptlm has increased though. I have found a year old one that has a mptlm of 1400kg but the 2016 one was 1500kg which is too heavy. I'm not sure why they are getting heavier.

No, I don't know why either as the low weight was why we ended up looking at Adria. They look the same. I know that you can get plates upped to higher weights, perhaps Adria are just doing this as default now. Ours is a 2012 model.

Don't forget to allow for all the pruck you will add. You will take bedding, some electrical and cooking kit, food and bathroom needfulls. If you then add in cloths, bikes etc you will easily add 250KG

Also an awning is a very heavy single item.

Our bailey ranger is 2001, its a 500/5 and is just over 1000Kg

It's only worth buying a caravan if you are going to take it on several trips a year including off season. Too expensive for an annual summer holiday. You could do a wide variety of easy toddler appropriate holidays and save a fortune. Unless you really love caravanning.

Well I'd disagree that 'it's only worth buying a caravan if you are going to take it on several trips a year including off season'...

The 'worth' of the caravanning is something that is very personal and can't be summed up by just how many trips you make in it or measured by how much money you spend on it.

Two years ago we bought our first caravan - a new Bailey Pursuit 540-5 - the one with the bunk beds as we have a 5 year old. Its rated at 1396 mtplm, which after coupled to my tow car falls just under the 3500kg mark as per the restriction I have on my licence (post 97).

This van ticked ALL the boxes for us and has been a real peach to own.

I count myself extremely fortunate to spend a week away at Easter, 4x weeks in the summer (only 2x for me tho) and 3x Bank hol's away in our van each year.

Caravanning means all things to different people and at the moment it fits the bill for us :)
