No it won't I'm afraid. With a fully wired 13 pin you get split charging for fridge etc the same as twin electrics. When you use a 13 pin adaptor it just allows you to plug a 13 pin plug into a 7 pin socket.

You can only use a single 13 pin adaptor if you have twin electric plugs on the caravan and a single 13 pin socket on the car or the opposite way round which then you have to buy the appropriate adapter required.
Other than that the answer is no you can't do it.

Forgive me for my lack of understanding. If it doesn't adapt a single electric to twin electrics, then what is the point of the adaptor?

The point of the adaptor is to allow a 13pin caravan plug as fitted to 2009 onwards caravans to be plugged into a 7pin 12n car socket to allow it to be towed. Ie caravan road lights will work but there will be no charging of caravan battery or 12v fridge operation.

If you want that then provided you have twin sockets on your car then you need a 12n/12s to 13pin adaptor.

Possibly some confusion here as your op reads as if you mean 13pin to single 7pin when actually you mean 13pin to double 7pin adaptor ie 13pin to 12n/12s, yes?

I think the simplest way is to state what is fitted to your towing vehicle, whether it's a single 13 pin socket, a single 7 pin socket (black) or 2 x 7 pins sockets (black and grey) ?
From the answer you provide will determine if you can use an adaptor or not.

It's single electric on my vehicle. What I'm asking is, if I buy one these adaptor type things that plug into my vehicles single socket (black),does the adaptor make it a double socket? On account of, if I plug the single end of the adaptor into my single (black)socket the other end of the adaptor has a black AND white/(grey)sockets (twin)which would plug into both of my caravan sockets/leads. I'm confused!

As your vehicle only has a single (black) single 7 pin socket (12N) then this will only function the lights on the caravan ie. marker lights, stop lights and indicators etc. and nothing more. You need a separate power supply (12S) from the vehicle battery to incorporate a cable to operate the fridge on 12 volt power and charge the leisure battery. A single 13 pin socket is the latest technology that incorporates both the 12N and 12S supply.
So to answer your question, you can't achieve the secondary power with just the one 7 pin socket which operates the lights.

What is the point in these so called adaptors then?

Because if your car has a 13 pin socket and the caravan has twin 7 pin plugs (black and grey) or visa versa it enables a connection without having to convert the wiring to a single plug to accommodate both towcar and caravan.
All you have to do is look at the plugs on the adaptors and there is a 13 pin at one end and and twin plugs on the other but they will only work if the car has been wired up accordingly which I have already clarified in my previous post.

If you only have a single black socket on the car, then that socket should only have been wired for road lights, perhaps for simple non-caravan trailer.

So, the bottom line is that the best course of action would be to replace it with a 13 pin socket (though note that only 12 pins are populated). Your other possibility would be to convert the car to twin sockets, adding the grey one, but that set up is less favoured now. The ideal now is a single 13 pin on both car and caravan - anything else requiring adapters adds numerous electrical connections, and therefore potential corrosion / failure points i.e.keep it as simple as possible

Does your car already have a 13pin socket? Does your caravan have twin 7pin 12n/12s plugs? If that is the case then yes you can use an adaptor to provide all caravan functions including caravan battery charging & 12v fridge while towing.

One point though. Your car 13pin socket does need to be fully wired. Some main dealer fitted 13pin sockets come wired only for caravan roadlights with charging & fridge wiring an extra cost option.

I read this to mean that Richiec has a 13 pin socket on the car and wants to connect up a twin electric (12N and 12S) caravan. If this is correct, the right adaptor will provide full road lighting, charging & fridge, provided the 13 pin already has the full functions catered for when installed.

EDIT: writing as OpenSauce posted ..

If your car has a 13 pin socket and van two 7 pln plugs you can purchase a13 pln plug with two cable entries
If you google western trailers you can download the wiring diagrams to convert.
Just double check your colour coding as there is some slight differences but not the numbered pins.
I converted mine to 13 pin on van in a hour most of the time was double checking the minute cast numbers for the pins, some are easily read but others are so small on the black plastic you need a magnifying glass.
My van had Amber reflectors down sides but after conversion I found they were lights not reflectors as they light up on test after I had finished.they certainly did not work on two 7 plugs before.
If I remember pin 13 is a earth wire for number nine pln supply.
