hi, does anyone know anything about the truma combi boiler. I have recentle bought a coachman 2013 vip 545 caravan, which has this boiler. My problem is that although I do have hot water at the kitchen sink, the most I can get is about half a bowl full before the water starts running cold, I cant even get enough hot water to do the dishes. Does any one else have this boiler in their van, if so how do you find it, should I expect more or is this as good as it gets. The description in the van spec says constant hot water Would be grateful for any info.

That's an interesting statement, but misleading to be honest. The Truma Combi on 2013 van, has a 10 litre capacity, but can't heat the water as quickly as a residential combi-boiler. It will obviously refill as water is drawn from it, but it will be adding cold from the water supply, which will then need to be reheated. If the Truma is ran on electric only, the heating process takes longer than if ran on either gas or dual-fuel (gas and elec).
Our Truma certainly delivers enough for washing up etc.
How long have you had the van? My initial thought it whether the system has been purged of air fully
Thanks for the replies. We have had the van for one month so we are still learning about it. We have the settings on winter settings and 60 degrees, run on electric. I have had a shower and there is no problem there. At the weekend I measured how much hot water I could draw before the water started running cold and it was three litres. Not sure what you mean by "purged of air fully" could I do this myself or would I need to take the van to a workshop, any advice I would be grateful for.
Personally I would drain the whole system, hot and cold pipes. If you have a flexible hose to fill the aqua roll I would hold this onto each tap and blow through to get as much water out as possible.
Close all but the hot side of the kitchen tap and fill up the boiler until the water flows evenly, then close it and open any other taps to get them flowing too. do the same with the cold water side until you have even flow. switch on the hot water and give it a good half hour then see if therein any improvement.
As an extra thing given the van is a few years old- have you looked at the filters on the actual taps - won't affect the hot water but will affect the flow.
By 'purge', I meant ensure no air locks. As suggested above, drain and refill system, but its usually better to leave furthest hot tap open first and work back once water flowing ok. Repeat with cold taps (don't forget shower too).
Incidentally, the Truma will heat far quicker on gas, plus dont forget that if any water had been drawn before your check, it may not have reached temperature again.

We have done what you mentioned regarding draining and refilling turning one tap on at a time, have tried on gas only and gas and electric, flow of water is fine and have checked the filter on the actual tap which is also fine, and when I measured how much hot water I could draw I had had the water heater on for a good two hours and had not drawn any off. My main issue is, yes, the water is very hot, but there isn't enough off it in my opinion, surely I should have more than three litres. I was wondering if there is maybe a valve or something which could slow down the cold water coming in to refill the tank.
When you first prime the system from the aquaroll do you make sure it fills the boiler first? We open the kitchen hot tap until water starts coming through and that takes a couple of minutes. Only then do we change to the cold tap to prime the cold feed.
That way it makes sure that the boiler is full of water and not air. It could be that the boiler is only getting a few litres and the rest is air. When you run the hot water tap off it replaces it with cold and the trapped air remains.

Was just wondering from my replies if you people have this boiler and if so do you have adequate water to do the washing up lol, or are you just seasoned caravaners passing on your knowledge and experience.
Yes, Chrys I have that boiler! The point of draining down and filling using the kitchen hot tap is to get the air out and if the tap runs smoothly without spluttering is to make sure the hot water tank is full before moving on to the other taps and then the cold.
thanks for all the advice. will be going down the caravan at the weekend and will follow the advice given starting from scratch, to check I have got it right here is my checklist. First will drain the tank completely, then, if I've got it right, I need to turn the kitchen hot tap on and then fill up the water tank. Have I got this right, feel like I'm nagging but I don't think there is anything wrong with the heater as I have got some hot water so want to make sure I am starting it up correctly to get the maximum amount of hot water,
Close the drain tap to stop all the water pumping straight back onto the ground...
Close all the taps (kitchen, bathroom, shower for us)
Place water pipe/pump in aquaroll
Turn on pump
Open kitchen tap in hot position
Wait for chugging and then a steady stream of water
Move kitchen tap to cold and repeat
Close kitchen tap.
At that point the boiler should be full.
I've read that you do all the hot taps first (one at a time) then all the cold but we find that the kitchen tap first approach works. We just do the other taps when we first use them.
I do kitchen tap hot then cold, then bathroom tap hot then cold, we don't use our shower as use sites so don't bother with that and never had any trouble.

Hi guys, thanks for all your help, went down the caravan at the weekend and did what you adviced,and I am pleased to say that it worked a treat, can now do the washing up in a full bowl of nice hot water and plenty for showering. I am now a happy camper lol.
