We want to go to the New Forest this summer but we are worried about our little dog. Does anyone know if there have been many cases of Alabama Rot lately? We used to go a lot but have kept away the last few years because of this.

Mmm that's a hard question to answer. Perhaps there have been less cases because people aren't taking their dogs there. When you read up on it, it would make sense to me to continue to stay away.

Tbh, we looked at going to the New Forest this year but have decided not to risk it and go elsewhere. I would rather be safe than sorry.

I wouldn't be taking my dog there anyway path, hadn't heard of it before this thread but reading up on it, it looks absolutely horrific.

We love the New Forest especially round Brockenhurst. I don't think there have been any new cases round there for a long while. I think I'll give the local vets a ring. I don't want to put our little dog at risk.

We lost our Flat coat retriever to Alabama rot in January 2014. we got another flattie straight away as I couldn't bear to be without a dog. I wash his paws and swill him down with the hosepipe, yes even in winter! He loves it and wont go in the house now without being hosed down and a drink from the hosepipe. From what we learnt at the time,Alabama rot is around when the conditions are wet and mild as in the winter 2013/14 and 2015/16 I'd go but make sure you wash the dogs paws when you get back to site.

mike and judi.... We went to the New Forest three weeks ago as we read it was usually when it was wet and mild. We rang the vets in Lyndhurst and Winchester and they hadn't had any new cases reported.
We kept her away from the streams in the forest and muddy areas. We also washed her paws at night. She was fine and there were lots of other dogs around.
We stayed at Black Knowl.
Thank you.
