am looking at a ACE caravan that parked in a driveway with only the rear window showing towards gate. trying to decode the reference on the window, but with age some dots are missing. what should the third character be?
Google 'caravan vin number' shows you how to find make & age etc from vin number 1992 onwards, This will be the number etched on window. 3rd character tells you caravan manufacturer.
Check 9th character for age of caravan. Caravan badged Ace more recently were made by Swift Group so maker code will be SW. Older caravans were ABI Ace & maker code is AB.
I understand all the characters from fourth to end and can read them. But the third character has dots missing so don't know what it could be. Any ideas what the third character should be?
A is for Avondale only as logically no duplication is allowed, so each letter relate to one make only. But couldn't be an 'A' anyway as only dots still showing of the character are - top left, to right and centre.
Just wanted to know what the character should be before I approached the owner. If the certificate states the same address as where it is parked, then no problem.
If it's 1994 the Cris reg may not have been updated. As caravans get older most owners don't bother. If it's '94 it ain't worth a huge amount so make a low offer if the owner wants to sell.
