Hi everyone!
I have a question regarding inverters. I'm thinking about getting a 3000/4000w inverter. I want too add sockets to this inverter. Is it possible to run cables from my sockets around the caravan to a 3 pin plug and then plug this into the inverter? The sockets will not be running from the hook up so will only be powered by the inverter?
Thanks in advance
you are wanting to pull 16 amps from an inverter, you are going to need a lot of batteries to power that. why not get a genny instead as even running your tug's engine as a genny using the alternator is going to put the electrics under stress. you need a genny and a pretty big one at taht
Thanks for the answers, I may not be going as big as 4000w, would rather use a larger one here just to play it safe for working it out. I'm planning on a battery bank of 3/4 225a batteries. I then want to add solar to the roof for these.
I think to be realistic and practical you need to assess what power you will be using and how long for. The numbers need to add up.
Your proposal to install sockets from an invertor is fine in principle but you will need to think about protection as in protection against electric shock, overload, fire etc.
This will be 240 volt mains electric but without the safety features of normal mains derived 240volt electricity so you will have to provide them.
High current draw knackers batteries, not specifically inverters.
If you're running multiple batteries, it may be possible to connect them in series for e.g. 48V at 63A for your 3kW versus 12V at 250A. You'd need a specialized inverter though.
Also remember inverters waste power even when not providing any load.
