I bought a damp van from a dealer, paid almost twice what I could have got it for privately thinking that I was getting a decent van as it was from a dealer. Once he had my money though, I had a few problems and his response was what do you expect, it's old.

In hindsight I could have saved a fortune and learnt the same lesson buying privately. My second caravan was bought privately, and quite cheaply.

I have recently bought our 1St caravan privately and wasn't as sensible as you to think to ask those of more experience. We viewed it and noted the problems with it that were mentioned to us (had damp, but repaired. Front corner legs dead). On attempting to remove front leg stud was spinning. On inspection under seats, under plastic sheet I found a not a damp patch, but a puddle, and there had been no rain for over a week. So 4 weeks later after drying, digging and cutting out rotten floor it's finally fixed and new corner steadies on. So I wish I'd been as smart as you and asked these guys first and had a pre-inspection done. I'd have gone in with a much lower offer if I'd have known I was going to have to do as much work on it as I have.
