can anyone tell me if the thule xpress 970 2bike rack will fit on the back of my t5 with barn doors im not sure that when you put the bike on the rack will there be enough clearance between the end of the handle bar and the door i dont want to rub on the paint work or damage the doors
Rule of thumb is that if you have a Swan Neck type tow bar, then all will be OK, but if you have the Flange Type tow bar, then you will probably have an issue, maybe some longer bolts and a spacer plate may give enough throw to sort the problem if there is one.
We have the the Thule 902 EuroClassic Pro tow ball mounted bike carrier, got that around 15 years ago and it has been a superb unit, although the instructions did say, Swan Neck towbar recomended.
We were a bit concerned that the end of the handlebars might rub the car as we were travelling so wrapped a bit of foam round them (they didn't rub but we felt better!).
We have a German towbar bike rack and a Berlingo with a very square boot, so the bike handlebars tend to rest against the glass. We find half a tennis ball on the end of the handlebar works well to provide cushioning. Failing that, try a pair of football socks rolled up into a ball and push the handlebar into the middle of them.
