Went to Book one of the specials(touring)a couple of weeks ago at Sandy Balls holiday village,we have stayed there before and enjoyed it,this time however,if your van is over 18ft long you have to phone to book a pitch which I did.
They have introduced a policy that if your van is over 27ft long,it costs an extra £5 a night,my van is 27ft .04in's,they still wanted the extraso I declined to book and I e mailed their customer relations office last week, asking if the extra £5 could be waivered due to the small extra length,so far no reply from them, will give them a few more days and will look at other sites in the New Forest, has anyone else had a similar problem,I had to give them my details so told the true length,if I had been a bit more savvy,I would have told them the length was 26/11ins

Just leave it a few days & book. The worst they can do is measure it with a tape measure when you arrive & it will be near enough 27ft to make no difference. Trying to measure a caravan with a tape measure is not an exact science.

I take it you took the measurement of caravan length of 27 ft. 04 in. from the corresponding handbook. If you did then this is only a guide as when they build a caravan they have to apply a measurement tolerance for construction (usually in millimetres) so it could be slightly under or slightly over. Whichever the case may be, just state 27 ft. and if they want to measure the length themselves let them do so because unless they have some expensive technical digital equipment to achieve a precise accurate measurement they are not going to be able to measure it to that fine detail anyway. The site won't have grounds to make the £5 charge unless they can actually prove that the caravan IS physically over 27 ft. long.

Go on a cold day and maybe the caravan will have contracted a bit?

does this refer to export length or body length?

i have answerd the export length when booking pitched before, in my case 7.5m (24'7-1/5")and the camp site warden has remarked how large my van is and that there may be a problem. then i say the body length is only 5.8m and they say "oh no problem then".

if its worth £5/night remove the tail light lens which will reduce the length below 27".

I was informing people of the new policy at Sandy Balls as it isn't mentioned in their adverts etc,so I didn't find out till I tried to book a pitch, what really upsets me is the poor customer service from them,(it's happening more and more)
are we so unimportant to them that they cant be bothered to reply to a legitimate enquiry,I've quoted the overall length of my van taken from the spec' sheet,as it's in storage, decided not to book now,and will take my custom elsewhere, the extra money they wanted (and more) would have been spent there anyway,as they have a bar and food outlets that we used in the past

I think you over thought this & the customer services agree. Nobody is going to be bothered about a fraction of an inch so why make an issue of it when they are not?

Some places may have the spec of the caravan on their computer and may do a check leaving you out of pocket.

Sorry,don't understand this.

They made the issue by wanting to charge me £30 extra over six nights for that fraction of an inch, and wouldn't budge from that when I pointed it out, also with not replying to my legitmate question about waivering the extra charge, also you seem to have taken the wrong direction from my op,
I simply informed people what to expect if they try to book a holiday with Sandy Balls, and my personal experience with them, surely I'm entitled to query the extra with S B

This is obviously a case where size matters, depends who uses the measure Man or Woman ;-)
