On a previous post I mentioned I change my battery every two years as standard as have a AWD mover to negotiate the fan around my drive alongside the house .
I have been using for the last 8 years with 4 battery changes the Platinum 110ah 6110L battery which I have found to be excellent .
Have just returned home with the new one and found that the positive and negative terminals are on the opposite sides that always have been previously?
Can't imagine this is a construction error as the positive and negative symbols are clearly next to each terminal.
This would not normally be a problem , except it just fits in the battery compartment with fractions to spare with the leads for the power and the movers all prepared to length and configured for the battery that was fitted in the can when the movers were fitted.
I can't even turn the battery round as there is not enough gap for the leads to go over the top of the battery to reach the terminals .
Does anyone know if manufacturers offer the batteries in each terminal configuration or have they just changed the layout.?
Guess I will have to take it back for credit tomorrow and buy another make , any suggestions for a good 110ah with the positive terminal on the left, looking from the front of the battery ?
Thanks
You learn something every day as I've never encountered the option for terminal placement.
However, I can happily recommend the Numax range, positive terminal on the left if it helps.
See Tayna Batteries - Numax range.
Did exactly the same some time ago, bought a battery without checking the terminal layout, was changed (same make)with no prob's,so it could be a common thing to happen.
Batteries come in all shapes and sizes. Ford used to use batteries with a flat post that the terminal bolted through, the Japanese used a smaller diameter post. While the post design seems to have standardized, the layout hasn't, nor have the battery dimensions.
I do have to ask why you replace your battery every two years, many batteries have a five year warranty and most outlast their warranty period.
Shame you don't live near me, I would quite happily have your two year old batteries! I changed mine in France recently after having it for nearly 8 years, why change it every two?
Hi all
Yes managed to get the battery changed over for the same
make / model / ah with the terminals the way I needed them.
As for changing the battery every two years , few reasons really,
The Platinum Plus 110 ah that I use , the shop told me it has a 2 year guarantee, rather change it before I get any potential problem or failure. Also as I mentioned, I keep the caravan at home, (Crusader Super Sirocco T/A weight upgrade) fitted with AWD Powertouch Evolution movers, when I move the van on and off the drive I have some tight turns to negotiate with a sloping drive so have to work the battery hard each time I take the caravan on and off the drive. It's just a case of rather replace it whilst it performs top notch, not wait until I return home from a trip and block ours and our neighbours drive because of a flat battery.
I keep the battery that I remove every second year in the garage, so I always have a spare backup battery which is kept on a Numax intelligent charger.
For the sake of £96 every two years to keep the caravan at home, knowing I won't have the hassle of possibly a rundown battery halfway up the driveway is worth the cost to me. As a footnote , although it only has a two year guarantee, I must say I have used the same make/ model battery for the last 8 years now and leave it in the van 12 months a year and use it year round and it has never failed to perform perfectly even in sub zero temperatures.
