Hi, I have purchased a pyramid Tuscany size 925-950 for our compass Kensington 550/4 1998 and measured the a messurement and is 925cm, the manual states it should be 935 so went with the manual, now it looks too big as the door height for both sides is only around 4ft high. I have measured the awning from where the peg strap fixes to to the other side and it's and it's 935. Looks like I will have to go the next size down but confused, Anyone else had similar problems or our we doing something wrong? Are the pyramid awnings a different size to others.
Looking at a Dorema Caravan Awning Green. Size 12 rail length 935cm as we are in need of an awning for our hols in August but don't want to buy another awning that is too big.
To measure the actual length of the size of awning you require, park van on level ground and run a length of string through awning rail from ground to ground, marking where each end touches the ground. Measuring this length should give you the length of the awning you require.
There are differences from one manufacturer to another,
A size 19 in one make will only be size 18 in another.
The height of the van also must be taken into account.
The manual usually states height of van from ground to top of aerial the flying saucer on your roof.
but you should deduct 10cms from this figure to give the true height you need, or measure from ground to roof centre of awning rail through centre of wheel on single axle or between wheels on double this is usually the highest point of van where awning is going to fit.
To get over your problem you will have to jack up wheels both sides so only joint of mud wall and vertical wall touch the ground either end of van, as doubt if dealer will exchange for smaller size now you have unpacked the awning as your photo's
There is a van on pitch opposite me which is raised about 60 cms so awning is correct height with van IE wall and mud wall are just about ground level either end of van and correct at front of awning.
If you are planning to use one of end panels as the entrance to awning you will still have to duck as these are lot lower than using end of one of the front panels ends IE nearest corner pole or even centre pole.

I messured it with running string around the awning rail and it was from ground to ground 925, the caravan is parked level and is 30cm high from the ground all round. Then got the awning and measured from the one side of the bottom of where the rubber ladder tent pegs fix to the other. The length was 935 so can't understand why it's sitting so low.

If you've measured the awning channel and the awning and the measurements say it should fit but it doesn't, then you must have measured something incorrectly.
The other thing is that the foot of the end walls should be pulled out forwards at the front and backwards at the back to make the bas longer. That will use up some length.
However, you can only pull it out as far as the front panel will allow you to.
I'm thinking its a Kensington thing with the way the rail goes or a pyramid thing with too much roof material making the side entrance ideal for someone 3foot 6!, even if I got it on levellers it would not be high enough.
So the dilemma do I go for another make at 935cm or get another pyramid but 900cm?
Going by the position of the awning roof seam in your photos it looks like the awning is a good two or three feet too long but when you have the awning threaded through the channel and centred just how much of it is lying on the ground at either end? Is there excess material?
Your two measurements that you have taken yoursel, awning channel and awning beading, are so close that you should have a well fitting awning. There is something not right somewhere and I would be wanting to figure it out before buying another awning.
I had a look at the online awning matching on the Isabella site and it gives your van ( it's a 500/4 according to your photo rather than a 550/4 as you describe) an awning size of 950. Even bigger than the one you have.
Perhaps a silly question but your pictures show it only threaded through the rail, you have tried it with the framework erected?

Thanks for the help, yes we erected the poles the night before and found the doors sloping downwards towards the caravan, the front was great but when it sloped back to the caravan it was 35cm lower each side from where the side panel door should be in relation to the front. So lowered the front and The side entrances ended up being 4 foot high and loads of spare at the bottom of the front.
It looks like the roof has 50cm too much material in relation to the sides.i in the photos my wife is holding the side that would go towards the front and it is below shoulder height and she is 5 foot 6" high so you can see my problem. It's level with the bottom door on the RHS and level with the bottom of the window on the LHS.
According to my research the size for your caravan is indeed 935 but that is obviously too big, if you have measured it and it is 925 the only thing I can think of is that awning manufacturers don't make awnings to the exact size for caravans, they fall into categories, for example in your case it might be 875 to 925 and the next size could be 925 to 975 if you get my drift, in any case the one that you have got is without question too big
