Hi can you help the fridge and charger rcd in my caravan 2000 swift challenger 530 se keeps tripping any advice greatly appreciated

Too many appliances being used simultaneously causing an overload. Other than that it's an electrical fault.

The RCD is on the main switch. The individual beakers are MCBs or Miniature Circuit Breakers. They trip because too much current is flowing.

Is it an occasional trip after a while or straight away when you turn something on.

Try and identify everything which is on that circuit by seeing what works and what doesn't when the tripping MCB is switched on and off.

Then isolate each bit of kit which is connected and try and assess the load.

On the MCB you will see something like B6 or B10, maybe C6 or C10. The number is the rating in amps.

If it is the RCD that is tripping they trip on earth faults not overload,if you aren't sure if it is an RCD an RCD has a button marked test.
If it is the RCD follow the fault finding flow chart below.

I had this problem in really hot weather, which is what we've been getting lately. Turned out the fridge was working full blast as the sun was on that side of the caravan more or less all day. Once we put a shade up on the outside, to shade where the fridge was inside, nothing tripped after that. We fashioned the shade from a sun umbrella tipped on its side and pegged down approx 3 ft away from the vent. It worked though!

Caravan fridges don't perform effectively on electricity during very hot weather and the advice is to switch over to gas as the appliance will get much colder. When the hot temperatures return to normal then switch back over to electricity again.
If you purchase the 'Caravanning Handbook' they will advise of this especially those who are holidaying abroad with higher summer temperatures than the UK.
Also, if you have an awning on the same side as the fridge vents you need to let the fridge breathe by leaving an awning vent open (if there is one) or leaving an entrance door open.

I fitted a thermostatically controlled 12 volt fan to ours to get rid of the heat more efficiency.
