Newbie here. I know this subject must have been covered many times. But looking on eBay, there are that many types, and range from £16 to £300. I'm after one that has real time tracking So any advice and recommendations would welcome.

I have the cheapo ones in the car and on the motorbike to see where they are....its not there for the theft aspect.
They go to sleep when parked up, but I can see a live location on a computer screen at any time. They are the tk102 type. Cost me about 20 pence a month each to run on payg sims.
Note there are hundreds of variations of these as they are mostly clones, so you have to programme each one differently.
I haven't put one on the caravan, and have no plans to as like i say, i'm not using them for the theft aspect ..but would be easy to do.
I was thinking of one of the cheap ones for the caravan. On pay-as-you-go. Sim. I know that if you do not use a "PAYG" sim - for a few months - they delete the number and you lose what you have left. How do you stop that happening ?
I use gifgaff sims. The are both in credit and haven't topped them up for 6 months.
I do log in to my acount to make sure that they have credit very free months.
Take care with buying the cheap ones. As not all of them have the sleep function.
mine go to slept and wake up when anything moves...if they don't slept then the battery only lasts 12 hours.
I have set mine to ping every 30 seconds when they are running, hence cheap to run.
I am even going to leave the car one switched on when in France as it's only going to cost me double for data
