I'm having some on going problems with my water heater. Basically, it's not working: it won't light, the red light comes on after 10 seconds. Initially it would light but then turn off the gas, then it started just not lighting at all, even though the spark was going.
Sometimes, however, it would light and work (though rarely).
After lots of trouble shooting, the place I got my caravan from exchanged the burner unit (though they couldn't find a fault with mine) and even gave me a new wall switch incase that was faulty.
I fitted the new unit and everything worked (yay), but then the next day it just wouldn't light again. So I fitted the new wall switch, and still it won't light.
I have taken the cover off outside to see what was happening and there doesn't seem to be any gas coming through (no smell) and there doesn't seem to be a spark, even though it makes the clicking noise.
I've checked the wiring from the wall switch to the burner unit and that seems fine.
I'm now at a complete loss as to why this heater isn't working! Except, occasionally it does...
What could possible be causing this???
Btw, gas is coming through to the stove and fridge without issue.
AND my pregnant wife and I are living in this caravan for the next month!!
The Cascade Rapide GE, in addition to the above safety features, incorporates a resettable high limit thermostat. (This is the red button on the rear of the heater, beneath protective cover, To reset, push the button.)
Also mentions air in the gas pipe.
Also says this
Red light comes on and after 30-40mins, water and steam
Fusible plug blown
Replace module and fusible plug
The source of the ignition comes from the leisure battery so a low voltage battery will contribute to a weak spark thus struggling to ignite the gas. You need to checked the battery voltage with a voltmeter which should read 12.7 volts or above so if the reading is below this then the battery is partly discharged.
Tried pushing in the red tab thing, but it's already pushed in.
I've changed all fuses I can, except the spark fuse within the unit itself, though its very unlikely it is that as the spark was working previously and I had the same problem.
If you can hear the spark clicking but can't see it its possible that the spark is tracking somewhere where it shouldn't be. Check the lead from the igniter to the pilot light
