We've made the very sad decision to sell up.. We've had a bad run with tow cars and just had enough of towing for now. Our tow car has been in the garage for 10wks for major repairs, we had to book statics last minute for our summer holiday as no tow car. The car before that last year cut out whilst pulling on to a very busy motorway with a coned off hard shoulder - that was scary.
We've had some fantastic family times and will not give up campsite life but we won't now experience it from our own tin tent. Hopefully another family will have great times in it and we get the fun of choosing a new tent.
------------- From tents to trailer tents to a tin tent to an air tent to trailer tent and back to tin tent!
We'd considered that but one of things which appeals us going to different places, there are no seasonal pitches on sites which appeal locally and the car repairs and associated expenses have been so much we could do with freeing up some cash.

We had to sell our caravan last year to free up some cash. We bought a bargain trailer tent to use for that season and still had fab holidays. We have since sold our trailer tent on, without losing money, and have been able to buy a caravan again this year.
Dont be disheartened about your van. We were gutted to have to sell ours but it worked out in the end. And we appreciate our new van more than ever!
God luck with your search for your new adventure.
Regards
The one which cut off on the motorway was an auto sorento and the current one a manual Mazda CX-7. Neither car problems were due to towing but the caravan complicates things. We had the top level of breakdown cover from the caravan club but that was not the service we received when we actually broke down on the motorway. I was very cross about it all but the breakdown garage said it was a very busy day. It was, it was an August Saturday but we travel on August Saturday so it wasn't much good for us. In the caravan club's defence they were not impressed with the service we received and agreed it was not what I had paid for but that was still not practical help at the time.
We all go caravanning for enjoyment of it but that has waned for us at the moment. We might feel differently once we only need a smaller van and therefore a smaller (petrol) car as we've had sudden problems with all our diesels which is a real pain as we always need both cars.

Problems with cars certainly impacts on your enjoyment of caravanning. We've had lots of niggly things happen with our cars which has stopped us going out because my husband will not tow if he's not happy that the car is not quite right. We now have a folding camper which he is much happier towing and we're going to use that for the next few camps. He's not ready to let the caravan go but there will come a time when we have to decide whether its worthwhile paying for storage, insurance, servicing etc.
We have had a Nissan X-Trail - That was brilliant - then we changed it for a Kia Sorrento 2.5 ltr - Had lots of problems with that - Now we have a Vauxhall Antara 2.2 ltr Auto - We both love it.
No problems so far. lol.
