Hello.

I'm due to go and collect a caravan later today. The problem is my car has developed a fault, which I'm pretty sure is a clutch problem. I have phoned everyone I know and no one has a tow bar, well the only person who has won't collect the caravan for me as they have a brand new BMW and they don't want to damage their car.

Anyway, the van is less than 10 miles away so we are thinking of just risking it in our car.... I have AA breakdown cover, but will they tow me and the caravan? Surely they wouldn't expect me to abandon the caravan by the side of the road?

It is a little bargain, so don't want to miss out on it.

It depends on what cover you have. In their terms and conditions it states that if the car breaks down and can't be fixed at the road side then they will take the vehicle to the nearest garage for repair but no information if you have a caravan in tow at the time.
If the clutch happens to fail on the return journey then it's definitely not a roadside repair so they would take the car to the nearest garage for repair and the caravan would be your responsibility.
The advice would be to phone them up and get it from the horses mouth because if someone says you are definitely covered and then find that you're not then it's you that has to pay the bill.

Terms & conditions of AA cover state that any caravan or trailer within the max stated vehicle size will be recovered along with broken down car. So the caravan will end up at the repair garage along with car.

Thanks guys.

I am 99% sure the car will get there and back just fine. It was just on my mind that I do have cover, so should be ok I have been with the AA for about 4 years now and never ever needed to use them.... fingers crossed today won't be the first time lol.

On my previous Mondeo, the clutch started to make a noise on the morning we were leaving for Cornwall.
I decided to go for it and if it failed, to get it repaired while we were away, anyway to cut a long story short it got us down to Cornwall towing the van, all the time getting noisier and noisier and got us back again, a total of about 800 miles, I took it to the garage about a week after we got back where it was diagnosed as the dual mass flywheel had gone

Why not ask the owner of the van to deliver it!
Even offer to pay them for the fuel.
Might be a LOT cheaper in the long run. Explain your situation
