We purchased a 2015 Sterling in October 2014, and within 18 mons we noticed the stitching on the Impala couch was coming loose very near the button hole. The dealer said it's only covered for 12 months so out of warranty. I disputed this because nowhere had I read that any upholstery was covered just for 12 months. I contacted Swift and they said my dispute is with the dealer because they don't supply soft furnishings ie curtains and couches and that I need to go back to the dealer....I did feel rather short changed with Swift but they did make it clear it's not their problem.
I went back to the dealer after I'd spoke to trading standards and after advise I quoted that it's "faulty goods and not fit for purpose" they agreed to take the couch in under the circumstances. I've just received a call to say they have refused because it's not a manufacturing fault, and that it's never happened before. The stitching has clearly come loose so I find it impossible for them to even suggest it's customer fault. And the fact that "it's never happened before" seems a weak excuse.
Has anyone else had any dealings with faulty couches or upholstery ?
If yes have you been successful in getting it fixed ?

Excuse me? Swift do not supply soft furnishings? [Insert Victor Meldrew-like spluttering]
If they don't supply them then how do curtains and sofa cushions get into every single van that leaves their factory? Fairies? Elves?
SWIFT definitely told me that... they said the only thing that goes to dealers is vans with fixed items like ovens loos and microwave. .. I might ring them back but the telephone advisor seemed confident in her answer
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Definitely a case for CAB or Trading Standards as the article is not fit for purpose taking into consideration the price paid for the caravan and the amount of usage you have had out of the caravan.
BTW the Consumer Rights Act 2015 over rides any warranty as a warranty is a meaningless piece of paper with no validity. Your issue is with the dealer and not who supplier of the furnishings so not your problem if the manufacturer of the furnishings does not wnat to repair under any warranty. It is the dealer's responsibility to ensure that the repair is done under the CRA 2015. If they refsue to repair you may have the option of rejecting the caravan as not fit for purpose.
BTW if the caravan is on finance, get onto the finance company and notify them that the dealer is refusing to honour their obligations as after all the finance company "own" the caravan.

Hi there thanks for comment. Sounds like you know your rights. Ive had a response from the dealer saying that the manufacturer has said agsin that it maybe the customer (me) has damaged it but you can clearly see the stitching is loose. Once I got this responce I went to swift for their advice. A kind gentleman said I'll call the manufacturer for you to plea your case (bearing in mind not the dealer its me snd the manufacturer now) dealer seems to gave washed their habds of it. The chap from swift has literally called me back to say the tear cant be fixed and that these cushions have never ever gone faulty before and that it maybe that ive caught it but clearly the stitching is loose. Swift have said there is no more they can do for me. As its the manufacturers decision but I still feel cheated and certainly let down. I do honestly feel that if they could have repaired it they would have but because of the style snd how its made its unrepairable but they obviously wont replace because it could MAYBE my fault.....what do you suggest I do

I am sorry but I gave incorrect information. It is a 2015 caravan purchased in Oct 2015 therefore covered by Sale of Goods Act and not Consumer Rights Act however teh good news is that you are still covered and CAB should be able to advise as stitching should nto come undone within 2 - 3 years.
Our Bailey Uicorn had a similar problem with the fixed bed mattress, after a year. It was sent back to the upholstery manufacturer. The replacent was worse-appararantly it had been recovered.
It went back again.I am pretty sure this one wasbrand new and is ok so far.
The tilt/telescope bed frame has now come apart so thats another warranty issue.
------------- DS-There's more to life than football!!!
Under Sale of Goods or Consumer Rights Acts, as the purchase was more than 6 months ago, it is up to you to prove the item is faulty with a manufacturing fault - not always easy to do.

Loulee, I wasn't doubting you :) I'm just staggered that someone at Swift told you that.
Sorry dear I know your not.... ive spoke to swift again today and again they have confirmed that all soft furnishings do come after the vans have been delivered to dealer via another manufacturer
