Hi,We have just bought an avondale wren 2 berth caravan and have no paperwork. The only i.d. is a 7 long number on a plate above the inside of the door.We guess it,s in the `80s year but would like to know for sure.Does anyone know where we could get a copy from archives from somewhere of the specs of this caravan with our `serial number`.Would be so grateful.
I am assuming the 7 digit number above the door is the chassis number, sometimes, depending on the manufacturer the year is integrated into this number? Alternatively, you could check http://www.avondalecaravans.com/ this website has copies of old brochures, you may be able to find then year of your van from this
I think there are at least two Avondale Owners Clubs still about and contacting these re your serial number should IMO get the info you seek. I am sure the plate holds the complete answer.
for the 3 wonderful people that replied, thankyou all so much. I now have 2 addresses to ask for a copy of a brochure and hopefully will be successful. again, thankyou so much.
Somewhere on the internet is a list which enables you to check the year from the caravan's serial no . Certain letters indicate the year but can't remember which.
Mister G, I think you mean the CRIS number. If this is the case the manufacturer is identified by a 2-letter code (AV for Avondale) followed immediately by a single digit identifying the year and corresponding to the equivalent car registration number (X for 2000, 2 for 2002). However, this was only introduced in 1992, and from the description it sounds like the OP's caravan is older.
I believe that in the 1980s it was common practice for the chassis number to include the year as a 2 digit number (e.g. 85 for 1985) either at the start (sometimes prefixed by a letter) or at the end.
Sue & Fred, if you can share the number and/or upload a photo I'm sure someone on here can make a pretty good guess.
I know some of this because we bought a 2002 Avondale last year, and downloaded the brochure from www.avondalecaravans.com/avondale-caravans-brochure-archive/. www.nationwidecaravanninguk.com also claim to have a "substantial number" of brochures available for download.
Bless you all for your help. We now have the year(1985) and also a brochure. The only wish now is to get a manual/handbook for our Avondale Wren. We are of course more than happy to pay for it or a copy. (The brochure mentions the wren but pictures only the Perle and a couple of others). Will figure out how to put a picture on this site shortly. Thanks so much again everyone.regards sue and Fred.
