HELP!
PLEASE!
We have just purchased an AVONDALE GODIVA 556-6 2003 caravan . I think. I say that because I cant find any paperwork on it, although it seems identical to the DART.
I wanted a brochure (or what each electric plugs are for!) . There is one inside the van, under the bed, near the fridge and no one seems to know what is it. Sorry about the explanation , not easy to describe.
Could someone point me in the right direection.
Thanks a lot, Wendy
As you can't describe what the switch looks like then have a good look at the selection of caravan switches in the link below to see if you can identify which one it is. That way you will likely to get a more positive answer as to what the switch is for.
The Avondale Godiva was a dealer special based on the Dart. Other than a few luxuries and trim changes, the two are identical.
Our 2002 Dart has the hot water switch on the panel beneath the front nearside seat, is that what you're trying to describe?
Avondale brochures from between 1991 and 2007 are available for download at www.avondalecaravans.com/avondale-caravans-brochure-archive/
Most heating and electric systems are made by other manufacturers and are not bespoke to specific caravans. Also, it may have been fitted retrospectively by a previous owner. But if you take a photo of the switch to a dealer or service centre they may well be able to tell you.
If you get really stuck I can scan some of the likely pages from our handbook and email / message them after I next visit the storage yard.
my avondale has a 240 volt water heater switch low down near the front seats.. pretty standard i think.. a red light comes on when the van is connected to the mains and the switch is on..
Hallo there and Thankyou, for taking the trouble to respond to my plea. I think you have answered my query already, but I'm just not sure . I have looked on the Avondale brochure 2003 Dart , and on page 4 is the switch I mean! What the problem was, the light was flashing on and off, then it went off completely, then it came back on. Someone on the site had a look and just switched it off. Nothing seemed to be affected.
I am a pain I know , but I dont like switching it off, if its really needed.. Is it something to do with the fridge, and I assume it shouldn't flash.????
fridge switches should be on the fridge.. the one near the floor is the water heater switch.. the heater is under the seat.. maybe it goes off if there is no water in it.. there is a water drain plug on the outside of the van.. it could have been drained for frost protection during storage..
Hi Trog! and all of you who replied. Very many thanks for your help. Yes, I am sure it is the water heater now, and shall have a good investigation next time I am at the van. Ccant wait!
connect water up to the van.. run some through the hot tap.. make sure the hot water system has water in it..
i still think its switching off because there is no water in it.. its like a kettle.. it will switch off with no or not enough water..
i could be wrong but its worth a try.. failing that it could be just a bad connection on the feed to the switch.. the switch does have to pass high current..
Hi folks I am what people would refer to as a caravan newboy have just bought a avondale argente however having abit of aproblem finding a connection from the water barrell to the fresh water intake have tryed numerous different companies that deal in avondale caravans is there any one who now's we're you can purchase this screw on connection or if there's a diy way to do it cheers.
But if it is the screw in brass type, these can be bought from B&Q

Paying to sleep outside .....Surely, that is an insult to homeless people?

Hi, I have an Avondale 556 Godiva 2003. I am new to caravanning, but getting used to things slowly. My question is about using the fridge whilst plugged into the mains. There are 2 switches below from nearside seat next to the fridge, one is circular and I believe controls the temperature and air flow from the fire, the other is just a white mains switch that lights up red when turned on...is this the switch that puts the power to the fridge when connected to the mains? If not can someone help me? I have checked the fuse box opposite, and all seems fine, all other electrics are fine, but hoping putting the switch on, will turn fridge on if I put it onto dc volt on fridge? Is this the way to do it, or have not turned on the right thing, or do I need a new fridge?
no , you cannot run the fridge on 12v directly from the caravan battery, it would discharge the battery in a couple of hours , 12volt fridge opperation is for when plugged into car electrics, and runs off the car when engine is running, you can run the fridge from gas ,or 240v electrics.
the circular switch you discribe is almost cirtainly the fire controls.
the domestic type "white" switch could be the fridge ,or it may be the water heater, so dont switch it on without any water in it.
try the fridge on mains electric, then wait a couple of hours to see if it is cooling down. you wont hear it running, like a domestic fridge, and its unlikely a van of that age (i think) would have a fridge light
