Can anyone suggest a tv for a caravan Have a one from aldi but some stations are hard to tune in especially bbc. Do I need a 12v and mains as I always have elec hookup also I am a poor northerner so price is a major consideration
Just watching my Alba 19 inch tv dvd in my van now. Is great and has matt screen rather than shiny so more watchable in a van. £99 bargain from argos, in fact they might be £79 now.
Just watch out with cheap TVs. The viewing angle can be critical so it's sometimes hard to position the TV for good viewing for two people. The better the TV the greater the effective viewing angle.
Mostly down to the aerial, but some tv tuners are better than others.
Over the years we have had some budget brands and well known brands and it can be a little hit and miss on the signal strength even though everything else is the same.
Not sure if it still applies but some antenna's didnt have all the channels it was like a remote booster antenna.
If your aerial points to one of those then you wont get all the stations.
Does that still apply?
We also have an Aldi tv and find it fine, all channels no problem mind you the sound is a bit c**p but apart from that it's a cracker! Get a good aerial
Thank you for your replies It seems that aerial connection is of prime importance At present we use the. Caravan aerial standard swift item 2015 model perhaps a dedicated model would be better
Sounds as if you have a directional aerial. Some areas like Cornwall have a big transmitter giving a lot of channels then a small local one serving an area without much signal from the big one with only a few channels. This really means you need 2 aerials if you are not getting good coverage from the big one.
Also a directional aerial need to be pointed in the right direction. Some tellys will indicate the signal strength to help you do this. This may be in a manual tuning part of the menus.
I have an Avtex 21.5 TV in our motorhome, its handy because not only has it got a superb picture it has a built in satellite receiver which is easy to use with our roof mounted dish. However if I was always going to be on 230v electrics and didn't need the satellite receiver I would be inclined to buy a branded TV. We got a lovely 19 inch combi Hitachi from Argos once which had a brilliant picture.
We use a Logitech combi TV that wasn't expensive and also have swift caravan. We've only ever used it with the caravan aerial and picture has always been fine at various places in UK, only occasionally suffering in windy weather. Think most of the cheap TVs will mostly be the same, problem probably lies more with reception in area. Could get a better aerial, be cheaper than changing TV.
------------- I went to the top of the mountain...and looked over the other side!
Terry a lot depends on what your viewing preferences are. If you just want a simple TV, you have suggestions from other posters.
However, these things have a habit of expanding, so if reception is poor, or you want something for the kids, then you might add a DVD player. Then its satellite decoder. This all adds wires and weight, so it can work out better in the end to get an all in one like Avtex, which are light, built for travelling, and have good viewing angles.

Try tuning the tv you have in your house, using your house aerial. If you get loads of channels, it's not the tv that's at fault.
If you are trying to get a signal on your drive or at a storage facility, you might not be able to get a signal for some channels, as other houses are in the way of the signal. You need to tune it on a campsite.
It's the same on some campsites. Some just don't have a decent signal and you won't get a lot of channels.
Another thing some people aren't aware of is that you have to retune the tv/search for channels every single time you change location, or you won't get many channels.
First I would try that TV at home as above before buying another.
If on hookup all time no point in paying for a specific 12V model. We have a 19" Kogan with in built DVD and freeview - these were great value ata round £100 but I think not sold in UK anymore
