I'm an expat of 15 years who is considering changing things around and spending the summers in the UK and the winters back in S.E. Asia where I have been living since I left the UK.
I sold up in the UK before I left, and as a result of this don't have a home there.
I don't really want to buy something at this time in my life, and renting is rather expensive.
I lived on a boat for many years in the UK before I left. And did consider that option again. However, I'm not as young and fit as I used to be, living solo on a boat might be a bit too much of a challenge for me.
So I'm thinking about a small touring caravan. With the idea being I would live in the van for the summer, and put it in to storage in the winter.
Now, I have a question regrading seasonal pitches, as I would prefer not to have to move around too much. Is there a problem with staying in the caravan for an extended period? Basically several weeks or even months at a time?
Plenty of campsites allow seasonal pitches but might not allow full time living for whole season. Choose the area of the UK you require, click camp site search at top of this page. Check their websites for rates then speak to them as some are more flexible than others. If you are going to have a car to tow it then no probs as you can move between sites every 28 days. I take it you have a relative who's UK address you can use as your 'UK address'? As site will probably require this.
If you have a UK address then probably best not to explain your real circumstances & just approach sites as a UK resident who wants a summer seasonal pitch.
If you are on a seasonal pitch you may need to be off site for a couple of days every 4 weeks if the site sticks to the rules but, if you can stay somewhere else for a couple of days, you wouldn't have to move your van. My van stays on its pitch from March till November then goes into storage for the winter months and is returned to its pitch in the spring.

Not necessary as we stayed on site for 11 months of the year with no issue. If the site insists that you leave after 28 days, then stay for 2 nights in a B&B and then return to the caravan.

I thought that was what I said!!
"you may need to be off site for a couple of days every 4 weeks if the site sticks to the rules"
Each site has its own rules depending on the licence but none should allow full time all year round otherwise it would be classed as residential.
So the site we are on has three fields and each has its own licence as they were gained at different times - they hope for uniformity in the future but don't have it currently.
Field one you are allowed on full time but only beteeen March and November.
Field two you can't stay on in January (and I think it may also have a limit to the days you can do consecutively but I don't stay in that field so am not 100% clear)
Field three you are not allowed to stay more than 21 nights and that means the van can't stay either so seasonals aren't allowed in that field.
On our last site it was open all year round but again the limit was 21 nights and then you had to be off for 3. They stuck to this rule.
