Told at the service yesterday that this must be done asap, so new ones being fitted today and I must be looking in the wrong places as can find no info. Any help please? i.e. which legs up, jockey wheel up or down?
Safest way is caravan hitched to car ready to tow then jacked up one side at a time to change wheels. Otherwise unhitched, legs up, jockey wheel down, handbrake on. If tyre fitter is doing it using trolley jack ensure he jacks caravan on the thicker metal under axles.
I agree with 'Opensauce' but furthermore remember to get each tyre balaced on the wheel rim otherwise 4 tyres not running true will shake your van to pieces. In severe cases it can lead to screws coming loose on door frames, cabinet structures falling apart and waterproof seals vibrating. The cost of balancing should be included in the price.
When I had a small caravan and took it into a tyre place to have both tyres changed they wound down the jockey wheel to it's fullest extent at the front then jacked the rear end up with a trolley jack on each steady leaving the caravan suspended in mid air. They had already done it by the time I realised. I came out in a cold sweat and spent the next half hour with my eyes closed and my fingers in my ears until somebody tapped me on the shoulder to tell me it was all over. The last time I felt like that my wife was having a baby!
