We are getting our caravan ready for a trip to Gloucester on Thursday.
We was just wondering what food staples people always have in there vans for making dinner.
Also what sort of meals you make.
Our small van only as two burners and a grill.
we tend to have fry up's and pasta based dinners.

well we just eat the same stuff we have at home! a few tins of beans are left in the caravan along with tom sauce, salt and pepper and that is about all, the rest we just pack up into a cool bag and put in the car on the way to the storage.
there isn't such a things as caravan food! 2 burners and a grill was the norm! just practise at home only using the same in your kitchen
We often don't eat what we would at home cos we're lazy and can't be bothered cooking big dinners. So I keep things like beans, pasta n sauce, tinned ham, tins of tuna, breakfast cereals in the van. If we're away for a weekend our meals are very repetative. We arrive late on a Friday so make sure we have a decent lunch and in the evening when we arrive we have cheeses, pickles, pate sometimes pizza (and wine). It's actually my favourite meal of the week, sitting in the awning with the twinkly lights on I feel like I'm on holiday. Saturday's we eat in the pub or I take a Morrisons curry meal with us. I take eggs, cheese and fruit up too for sandwiches/lunches when we're on our long walks. Not much else unless we're barbequing. Everything I've mentioned is basically what we eat for the 8 month season lol.
I tend to use a steamer on the hob for the veg, and a mini oven / grill for most things. The BBC Good Food website is great for ideas (the search works really well). For example, here are a zillion one pot meals.
We are not big on cooking when we are at the caravan. Like feeblecat our first night is pates and cheeses with baguette and wine of course. We tend to stick to simple meals of pasta or rice or pizza delivered. Time away at the van is too short and precious to waste on preparing and cooking elaborate meals. We are both on holiday. The oven is used as storage. Its never been switched on. Same with the grill.
Pretty much always take a ready prepared home-made chilli, or bolognese, for the first night. Just warm through whilst the rice or pasta is cooking and serve. Everything else the same we have at home. Small basket of "staples" kept in the van, salt/pepper, mixed herbs, one-cal spray - good for pans/cadac etc, stock cube etc.
We eat the same as at home, plus the occasional meal out, maybe every other day.
We tend to have a homemade cottage pie on the first night, we make it the night before. Otherwise much the same as at home. Things thatvmight help you areca slow cooker and a stovetop steamer, then can cook different veg on one ring!

We have a slow cooker which we do take if on electric hook up. We had some lovely jacket potatoes cooked in it.
Also we keep an eye out for local produce. When we was near a fishing port in Wales last year I got some fresh dressed craps and made a lovely crab salad.

If we are taking the girls (dogs) with us, I usually cook and freeze a few meals - curries, chilli etc. Its just easier than finding somewhere to eat which either allows dogs or has outside space.
When in France - without girls- we bbq / buy roast chickens or eat out. We have lots of salads, breads and cheeses too.
