Some of the early Elddis and ABI caravans may fit the bill. Depends how big a van you need. My Elddis Tornado is a small 4 berth.

Sprite musketeer, but some are over 1000kg.

Plenty of lightweight Avondales around.

Beware sellers that state the unladen weight and not the gross weight.

Or you could look at a folding camper. Much lighter to tow.

How many berths do you need?

Most manufacturers made caravans under 1000kg but over the years caravans have got heavier and heavier as more equipment has been fitted. You are probably looking at 1980's or 90's caravans to fit your budget and get under the 1000kg limit.

Have you got a tow bar already or do you have to include that in your budget?

Doubt whether they would come within the OPs budget though Navver.

There are a few early 90s vans with a maximum weight no greater than 1000kg : Abbey Piper, Swift Rapide GXL, Elddis Wisp, Bailey Beachcomber, Sprite Muskateer.

If you want a 5 berth some of these start to exceed your weight limit depending on exact year and model, so you will need to check very carefully.
All of these will be well within your budget if you can find a good one.

Hi Seany, I realise that you need something under 1000kg due to the car's limit but how many berths do you need? The Freedom caravans mentioned above are light but are very small so only suitable for a couple. As you have a 7 seater car I expect you may need more than a 2 berth caravan.

Rob
