Ugly grey plastic, does anyone have any ideas as to what to cover it with? I thought a big duvet cover tucked under the mattress and hanging down (only bothered about the side bit that we can see), any other ideas gratefully appreciated.

How about a divan trim. Have a look on the Dunelm website they have lots of colours available.

Hi, try a flat sheet same size or bigger as mattress ie double/king then layout on mattress with enough to make corners as if fitted at the back which will slip on easy [pin then machine up the seam] the longer front piece should hang down and cover edge etc with the excess at sides going under mattress
I then use duvet to make up the bed
flat sheets can often be bought very cheaply
