Hi all Im looking to get a new caravan and have my heart on one with a separate shower unit,so I was wondering if people actually use them or whether they aren't much cop.My current van has a wet room type and to use the shower just makes too much mess and damp.

We have a separate shower cubicle and always use ours but the difficult part is switching on and off the taps as you are limited on water supply especially from the hot water tank. The best solution is to find a system that has trigger taps rather than the conventional round taps as you can just flip the water on and off as required which doesn't effect the water temperature. If you do have a shower with the conventional round taps you can purchase a shower head with a trigger on top that works on the same principal. The advantage of having a separate shower cubicle too is that you can utilise the space when travelling to carry the waste tank and water barrels which you immediately remove when arriving on site so the shower then instantly becomes vacant.
A trigger type shower head is shown in the link below.

Use of showers in vans is pretty much split evenly between those who love them and those who would rather the space was used for something else (us included).

There are cases of damp from leaking shower enclosures too, which may require a lot of work to rectify. If the enclosure is made up of several panels, there is a risk of the sealant giving up eventually. I don't see this as a risk worth taking

Personally I have never wished to lug water to the van only to lug it away again afterwards, when the site facilities on Caravan Club sites are so good - though I can see the point on some CLs

agree with chrisn7 - never used one. Water in a van is the major worry. Mind you, it makes a great fruit and veg storeroom. The water barrels fit in for travelling along with the coolbox and bucket - a perfect fit.

We use our caravan shower a lot, though also use on-site facilities - if they are clean, good quality, not busy, open at the times we wish to use them and it isn't cold, wet, windy or dark outside! It's good to have the choice! We do have 2 aquarolls so it's easy to switch if we're in danger of running out of water, and check the one we're using is full (or almost) before we start showering. On balance, I'd say we use the caravan shower more than the site ones, especially in the colder months.

We have used ours on sites with no toiletblock and a rally.
We have 2 aquarolls, always useful especially on sites where it takes a while to fill them!

We use ours because the site we site store on doesn't have any toilet or shower facilities. To be honest when we are away it's a case of jumping in washing hair and body with a 3in1 shampoo conditioner and shower gel rinsing off and getting out again. I don't think caravan showers are meant for leisurely showers. It's always good to have a choice of using your own facilities especially in the summer of sites are busy and facilities stretched.

We use lots of C&CC temporary holiday sites up to 12 nights at a time, no facilities, no EHU only the caravan. We do have a separate shower unit and use it a lot, the wife has a shower, give it 20mins for the water to heat back up, then I have one. Simple, shower on get wet, shower off, shower gel to lather up, shower on to rinse. Two aquarolls just in case you need extra water.

We are lucky as we have a reasonably new caravan. We use our separate shower all the time. We have an onboard water tank so water supply no problem and the Alde heating as a shower booster on the control panel. Two of us showering(not together) no problem.

I have a separate shower cubicle and yes I use it when not on sites with full facilities. As others have said, get wet, lather all over, and shower on to wash off. Just make sure aquaroll is full up to start with. Must add its a lovely shower as well even better than some on sites that have full facilities.

I always use the caravan shower.
out of bed 2 paces wee, 1 pace brush teeth, 1 pace shower, done.
I have 10 litres of hot water, the shower mixer is set roughly 2 thirds cold to 1 third hot so that's about 30 litres, plenty for a real good soaking

Love my own shower. Seperate shower cubicle. I would say make sure you have a lined cubicle. So much better using your own. No ques in busy times, you know its clean and don't have to walk to the shower blocks in pouring rain!
i make sure the bathroom is well ventilated while using the shower, and wipe it down after.

WE have a nice end bathroom with separate shower. Never showered in it, never will. Useful for storage though.

Lets see I can trudge to a shower block and queue up along with, the rest of the great unwashed. Or I can roll out out bed stick the kettle on have a shower make a cup of coffee. Yes I might have to fill the aquaroll but as we have a 50l onboard tank and a 40L aquaroll I can do this at my leasure. Actually frequently we stay on fields with no facilities so no choice. But even with facilities we rarely use them for anything. Wouldn't consider a van without a large washroom
