I AM JUST IN THE PROCESS OF CHANGNG THE PUMP SYPTHOM IN OUR VAN , ON REMOVAL THE OLD ONE IS COVERED IN BLACK STICKY SLIME SUBSTANCE AND ON CLOSER INSPECTION THE TOP TANK IS ALSO CONTAMINATED ASWELL IT LOOKS LIKE ITS NEVER BEEN CLEANED AND NEEDS TO BE DESCALED AND CLEANED BEFORE FITTING THE NEW SYPTHOM. ANY OFFER ANY ADVICE OR IS THERE A HOUSE HOLD CLEANERS WHICH CAN BE USED FOR THIS TASK

Milton Sterilising liquid is safe to use on plastics but not steel which is the best product to use. Just follow the instructions on the container and leave overnight is best. I do mine once a year at the start of the season when the caravan has been standing over the winter period.
Flush through afterwards with clean water as it states not to mix with other chemicals.

pretty sure Fenwicks do one, have everything else and its great so give that a go

We used to get the black stuff - it stopped appearing when we switched from Aquakem pink to a different brand.

We use white vinegar and baking soda for jobs like that.
Like the waste water tank on our van it is amazing the muck it shifts.

Also don't use pink in flush tank going forward as that is often what seems to cause black bits
