Anyone know where I can buy some heavy duty ladder straps? The ones supplied with my awning (Dorema)don't seem very strong and keep snapping. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I still have the original awning ladder straps that came with my Dorema awning when I purchased it back in 2010 and none of the straps have ever snapped on mine and I use a claw hammer to retract the steel pegs. They are quite robust actually so you must be something wrong to be able to destroy them so easily.
Don't think I'm doing anything wrong, maybe I've put too much tension without realizing. Having said that, it has been quite windy this year and that may have taken it's toll. I'll keep looking.

There is no such thing as heavy duty awning straps, that's why you can't find them for sale on the internet. If they were heavy duty then they would most probably be thicker rubber which would be too thick to allow them to link up securely with the connecting clips at the base of the awning material. If you have the straps tensioned too much then there is a likely problem that the doors are difficult to zip up anyway but in windy weather you are supposed to attach the Dorema storm straps to the corrresponding clips at either end at the corner of the roof. These are designed to restrain the material so being reliant just on the straps alone is obviously going to cause some issues with snapping prematurely.
Yes,I see your point about thickness, never thought of that. Storm straps are on so that's not a problem. Maybe it's just my over enthusiasm with my mallet. Take more care in the future. Thanks everyone for your contributions.

On some hardstandings its really difficult to remove the pegs without hitting then with a lump hammer, occaisonally hitting the straps. I got so fed up of bending rock pegs on hardstandings that after reading a few forum posts I decided to use long hex head screws with penny washers. To remove the pegs a quick reverse on the drill looses the pegs and I no longer use the lump hammer to remove pegs and as a consequence don't damage the ladder straps
Hi Geoff48, that seems like a great idea, never thought of that. I have the same trouble on hardstands with bent pegs. Screws instead of pegs could be the answer.
Many thanks.

For what its worth, a claw hammer usually does the trick. Also, try not to hammer the head of the peg so its virtually underground, as this will damage the strap as well on hard surfaces, and make it a cow to get back out. I always leave half an inch of shaft so i can get at it with the claw. The threaded pegs are a good idea, but i am too tight to by new pegs! Not sure if the hex screws and penny washers are a saving either? (why do the penny washers cost more than a penny? )
