I am going to see a 1993 Lunar Clubman 400/2 tomorrow. Does anyone have any info on this model? Are they well built? Are there any well known problems?
Its 24 years old mate. Whatever it was like when new, prepare for something a bit different. Just go on what it appears like tomorrow. Take along someone 'who knows' if possible, if you are unsure yourself. Get them to show you EVERYTHING working. Tell them in advance you will be expecting this.

It's a possible replacement for my Elddis which is nearly 30 years old, so by comparison it looks quite new. It's a cheapie, so I am under no illusions, I just wondered about the make, as it's not one I have any experience of.

It could be as good or as bad as any other caravan of similar age. For that age it's all about the caravan not the make.
Absolutely, Opensauce. Just wondered if anyone had had any particularly good/bad experiences with Lunar caravans, or anything particular to look out for regarding that make. Any weak points, such as prone to leaks in a particular area, or are they solidly built, etc? This is only the first one we will be looking at, so unless we are particularly taken with it, it will probably not be the one we buy. We looked at quite a few before we bought the one we have now, and if it wasn't for the current problem we are having and not being able to fix it myself, we wouldn't be parting with it as it's ideal for us.
When it comes to caravans and makes/models I think it all comes down to the day it was made.
I have read loads of people complaining about Bailey caravans, and yet I'm sure there are far more people who have had no problems what so ever.
I mean if it's coming up to lunch time and a worker has to get his work done, will he rush his work? same thing if its a Friday. Caravans are still predominantly made by hand, unlike the motor industry which is mostly done by robots and because of this you'll always get variations on quality of work.
As others have said, check it (especially check for water ingress) and if your happy buy it.
Hi Colin
I part ex my 2001 Lunar clubman 530 4L last Aug for a Swift Charisma 545 the only reason I swapped it was for the layout of the Swift.
Grandaughter was getting too big for the top bunk otherwise I would have still had it
The Clubman had a much better spec than the Swift & for a 16 year old van it was immaculate
As others have said give it a good check over & maybe get an independent engineer to look over it
Regards
Graham
Been to take a look today. Ok, but didn't really grab me. Still, that was only the first one we looked at this time round, and there are many more out there.
