Hi all, brought a 2004 coachman amara couple of months ago from dealer, came with 6months warranty. Had it about 8 10 weeks and this is my 3rd time away and noticed some cracks in shower tray.. emailed dealer pics and had a response saying they wont do nothing as of the age of caravan and the cracks would have been there when sold to me ( like i would by a caravan with cracks in floor) any info in what i can do now ? Did pay a bit on credit card but dont know where to go from here... caravan has already gone back to them for repairs as needed few things done... so basically they saying they sold it like that with out telling me so surly should have been sold as seen and with out warranty... any help would be great ... tia

A chat with your local Citizen Advice Bureau and from that Trading Standards would IMO be a more constructive start than forums.

There seems a fundamental conflict with "sold as seen" being offered with any warranty?

If you are going to start worrying about cracks in the shower tray on a 13yr old caravan then best you buy a new caravan. A caravan that age will always have some cosmetic damage. It's an easy diy repair with acrylic glue. Score v's in the cracks & glue them.

Dealers cannot now sell as seen only for spares or repair if no warranty is offered. If you bought the caravan less than one month ago you might get your money back but then you have to find another 13yr old caravan with no faults.

What you onabout buy a new caravan ?

If some think has a warranty on it it should be sorted, thats why people go to dealers to have that piece of mind and pay the extra, if it got cracks after warranty id take it and sort it myself but they saying it was there when i got it.... if it was i they should of sorted it as it be a fault and i was not aware of it

No dealer selling 13yr old caravans will do warranty work of the nature you describe as you have discovered. Good luck with getting it fixed but you are better off buying a caravan that age cheap as poss off a private seller on eBay. Dealers of older caravans rarely pay more than lip service to any warranty they offer.

It is awful that you have this issue with your new to you van, I don't have any answers for you but felt that a bit of support was needed after previous replies, just because it's 13 years old doesn't mean you should accept not being able to use the shower.

So back in March everything was good, more or less, in the caravan world, now you're saying you wouldn't buy a caravan with cracks in the floor.

This place could help.

XVI yes?

As well is two words!

Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

Ideally you should have ascertained just what any warranty covered before you bought it. As in a lot of 'warranties' on second hand cars will not cover 'consumables' - clutch/brakes/cables etc.

The cracks in your shower may have been hairline when you bought it; nigh on invisible. But with use, have expanded. It would be hard to prove either way, but the age of the unit is going to favour the dealer i'd say.

I'd take it on the chin, repair it yourself, and enjoy the van going forward.
