im new to caravaning i had one as a kid it was great so i thought id get one for my kids.
Just bought a bailey lite 5 berth without even seeing the van, the previous owner towed it to a site of our choice and set it all up, im over seas and due home next week so the mrs and kids are at it now and are having a problem getting fresh water, it was working on day 1 but not now, she hears the pump when switching on a tap but no water, could it be air locked? any help or things to look out for on these vans would be appreciated
Many Thanks for that, the mrs txt today saying the site manager (banff links scotland) came over and sorted the problem, the battery was stone flat supposedly the water pump wont work off 240v alone?? Im due home next week so i will see the van when im home.
Id think we will be upgrading next year if we enjoy it so there will be a van going cheap at the end of the year, 2 awnings with it too.

im not sure Grampian91, im assuming thats what the fella has switched on for her. any pointers for first time towing guys? i have towed trailers and boats in the past long before i had wife and kids tho.
welcome to the madhouse ,it sounds like the mains electric isn't charging up the battery or the charger itself is switched off or not working , the battery in a caravan when hooked up to a mains supply only works as a rectifier i.e the mains comes into your van goes through the charger to the battery and you can then use your 12v items ,water pump,,lights ,etc .
in that case it doesnt need a fully charged high capacity battery ,so i would get your wife to check first if she has mains electric ,and if theres a battery meter check to see what its reading .it sounds like she has help at hand so hope it works out o.k

many thanks for the reply. she is hooked up to mains, im hoping the charger was just switched off.
on a lighter note the wife and kids are loving it, weve done a few statics over the past 4 years so gl;ad they like the smaller van too.
Even with a dud battery the onboard charger/PSU should have put out 12v. I would get that checked otherwise you maybe just draining the new battery.
Easy to test with a cheap multimeter.
Turn off the mains, connect the meter to the battery and see the voltage. Switch on the 12v lights and wait 5 minutes with them on and check the voltage again. It should drop but stay above 12.64 volts. This may vary depending on the actual meters accuracy, but even a cheap one will be accurate enough.
After getting the 2 readings, connect the mains back up and check the reading again. The 2nd reading should be below the first one, but not considerably below, and it should be above 12.6 ideally.
With the mains and charger switched on it should not be below 13.8.
