Hi
I have atc fitted it has worked fine with no issues for 3yrs.
Plugged the van in to the car yesterday and the atc light is not working at all. I can hear the unit go through its cycle and it seems to be working fine. Any ideas as to why the LED is not illuminating it should start red then go green from memory.
I have a similar problem, recently changed my car, the new car has towbar and 13 pin electrics already fitted. ATC worked fine on previous car, now when I hitch up and connect electrics.... Nothing , no lights or sounds.
I will get under the van and check connections, is it anything to do with the 13 pin socket on the car? Lights/ indicators working on van when towing.
Last year I replaced theATC LED unit on the caravan, hope that hasnt failed again.
Thanks
John
Interesting. We have just changed the car and to 13pin. We used an adaptor before. I'm going to try and rig the adaptor off a spare leisure battery and try it. We didn't have a problem with old car useing adaptor just plugged in new car for first time and the atc sounds like it's fine but no lights. I did read on 13pin it needs a 25amp fuse instead of the 15or 20 amp previously.
Just a thought John the power on pins 9 and switched power on 10, earths on3,11&13. Check to see if yours has the fuse fitted, it should be near the battery
These lights historically do not last long, 1-2 years, on our last van it lasted 18 months. Ordered a new one from a local dealer, you have to order ALKO parts through a recognised agent, took a couple of weeks I think to arrive and about 5-10 minutes to fit.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
I did wonder due to their design how long they last, I guess there'll be a tidal wave of people saying never changed it but I have admit I don't like it's design
The fuse on your car. Most towbar fitters seem to put a fuse on live and earth on the battery connection on your car. So look around the battery area in your car for wiring that doesn't look like it was done in the factory (mine has a red bit of wire then a fuse then changes to brown and goes through the to the towbar electrics via a switch box)
Just bought a new LED from the online bailey shop for £28.76 so we'll see what happens, I've currently got the caravan plugged in to a spare battery, still no light but I figured it can stay like it for 12hours to reset the memory. I'll update once the part arrives
If you are OK with a soldering iron you can get a new bi- colour LED and repair it for under £2. This includes the cost of putting a resistor in the circuit to extend its life.
It should not need to be left after replacing for it to work,
From my experience it's the led that has failed, providing the atc is engaging its test sequence when connected to the car. If it is then connected to the battery is a waste of time, wait for the new led, plug it in and it will work.
First of all putting a test meter on car socket pins 9&13,you have 12 volts. If OK connect car up and listen for ATC actuating. If not start checking connections starting with the plug and working back to the Alko unit. Disconnect the LED at the plug and put test meter pins in and then connect plug to car and you should see the meter read 12volts and changing over from positive to negative 12 volts or visa-versa depending which way round the pins are in. If no volts the unit is faulty. If volts the problem lies in the LED
Birdman, put my meter on pins 9 and 13 ....nothing, so no permanent live.
I have been told it could be a fuse in the relay, or a faulty relay.
Where might the relay be, and what does it look like?
Thanks
