As a newbie to Caravaning I would like to pick every ones brains,I have recently bought a beautiful Avondale Argente 640, 6 BUT last week it got blown over god alone knows how but it did,and no I am not insured ::((( Amazingly though 3 sides and the interior are damage free !!! BUT the front not so lucky the 3 windows have gone and there is a break in the piece of wood which is underneath the window frame, and the plastic is cracked,The van is solid and towable,,it is in storage but in the open in Abersoch North Wales, So two questions Firstly is there any one out there who is or knows a caravan repairer who could undertake the repairs, and I believe as Avondale are no longer in business would another make of windows fit,,Any info or help or just kind words would be appreciatted,Many Thanks,
Many Thanks, he has come highly recommended I have emailed him and left 3 phone messages but no news yet, hope to hear from him soon,Glad to know he is highly thought of,
Post up a picture of the damage. If plastic front panel is cracked & all front windows broken I doubt caravan is worth repairing at commercial rates. Probably cheaper to buy a new caravan if you cannot diy repair. It's doubtful a repair shop would even take on repairs if caravan would otherwise be an insurance write off.
It will be difficult to replace Avondale windows this company might be able to help but they are very expensive. With the body repair and windows it will probably be cheaper to scrap it and buy another. EECO Windowa. You could try the scrap yards for windows see link for UKCS site Breakers
I doubt a repair shop would take that on. That would be an insurance write off even with a new caravan. If caravan has been blown over onto it's side then integrity of whole structure could be compromised.
Diy repair might be possible but front interior would need to be stripped out, broken timber replaced & front panel repaired with glass fibre if that is even possible .Then new windows would need to be sourced. If nothing secondhand could be found new windows could be made but well over a grand just for them, I would think.
Apart from windows materials cost would be small but repairs would take several working days which at commercial rates would make it unviable. Any sort of extensive repair to older caravans is usually only whorthwhile on a diy basis.
If caravan is ok to tow then best bet is to list on ebay no reserve plenty of photos, good description. Sells to highest bidder who pays cash & tows away within 5 days of end of auction. Stick plastic sheeting to front with plenty of gaffa tape to keep weather out.
try this guy caravan spares u.k ,based in colwyn bay ,north Wales 01492 530167, he might well have a replacement front if its possible to change it over, the worst way he will buy it off you for breaking .friendly chap so worth a try
