I heard MFI were thinking of reinventing themselves in this market. 😏
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Just a thought for anyone who may be interested in such a project, what happens to the caravans which the Caravan Club (old, short name) & presumably the Camping & Caravan Club provide for their towing courses? I recall looking inside one some years ago when I took a course & there was little, if anything, by way of internal fittings.
I can't imagine that the manufacturers want them back, so presumably the clubs must sell them.
We have a 1995 ABI marauder, and whilst away in it a few summers ago the fridge gave up. Looking online even second hand caravan fridges were upwards of a couple of hundred pounds and as we had another few weeks away we pulled out the broken one and bought a very small domestic one at half the price, with twice the space and a larger freezer compartment (We later bolted this in on returning home). After 3 days of rain we decided this was fun and as the oven took 2 hours to cook a piza we would also remove that and replace it with a small light microwave. The electric heater, toilet and sink (which we never used) were also ripped out, god knows what the other people on the site thought we were up to. We took it all to the dump and couldn't believe how much it all weighed. The toilet we took home and sold on ebay for £350, we just use one of those light bucket things with a seat on for emergencies. I dont see the point of dragging all that extra weight with us when all we use are the microwave, fan heater etc.
Getting the hang of this customizing malarky now, this year took down all the faded pink curtains that annoyingly hit your head in the night and let light in, and fitted B&Q blackout blinds instead. Also fitted plastic window board for worktops and shelving in the toilet (light as a feather).
You wouldn't recognise it now.
No it's not. Those of us who got fed up with erecting tents thought of a sort of tent on wheels that did not get blown away in storms & leak & called it a basic caravan. A box to sleep in as alluded to in an earlier post.

As pointed out in my earlier post. If you just want a box to sleep in you won't get an empty box but you will get the type of smaller lower spec caravan that UK makes do not list. Kip Shelter, Kip Kompakt, Weinsberg, Tab & so on. The continental makes have huge ranges from basic spec up to super luxury. Something for everybody.
It depends how you do your caravanning. I only go down to France in the summer so I don't need heater, water heater only a bed & a cooker so I could get one of those low spec things but they still cost more than I think is worth paying so I just go for '95 Abbey 2berth, grand off eBay & drizabone.
I don't need a home on wheels just a box to sleep in but there are much cheaper options than a new low spec 'van that still costs £9k or more & I ain't got to fart about taking it back for warranty work every 5mins. Probably plenty more who think cost effectively & can use hand tools hence the CoC thread.

Yes, me for one Opensauce. Now on our second CoC, although this one is not so crappy. The last one at £500 did us fine for 4 years, and so we went "upmarket" for our second. This one cost us £1,100. What has the latest model got that ours hasn't? I can only think of air-con and a microwave, but then you can get one of them for £30. Even in 1992 they weren't so basic.
